Jumped Ship
If anyone in the New England area is interested in buying a mint condition 2013 GLK250 w/ ~9700 miles on it, check out Coastal VW's website. That was traded in by me on 7/1/14. Options listed on attached PDF.
I actually purchased and installed a Becker Map Pilot on it after the fact, which I didn't remove because having a nav system bumped the trade in value up.
I don't smoke and never had any pets inside the car. I always take good care of my vehicles. Yes, as you can tell, I enjoy switching cars often (seeking intervention as we speak ).
Anyways, just wanted to give a heads up to my fellow forum members. I know the current listing price is ridiculous but I assume there will be room for negotiation. I'm in no way in association with the dealership so I won't post any links or prices here.

Nice car. The USA will reportedly get the Golf GTD by 2017. Basically the GTI but with diesel power. Presently offered in the European market. My nephew just purchased a 2015 GTI 4 dr. Did you get the performance pkg.? It includes limited slip diff. & few other goodies

I got the '14, so not the MK7 but an MK6. So no such goodies for me unfortunately....But I just couldn't resist the discounts available on the '14's.
Although I will be interested in getting into an MK7 Golf R after a year or two once they work on some of the kinks for the brand new model.

Just curious what is wrong with the diesel GLK that you traded it in for a GTI? Was it too big for you or what?

I just found the GLK a little too heavy and unengaging to drive. Do miss the V8-like torque though.

Two so very different vehicles. And I should know as I have both
The GTI is an absolute pleasure to drive. The GLK just doesn't have the same solid feel, and of course the handling is vastly different.
That being said both vehicles are for rather different purposes. On the highway the GLK is excellent, really quiet and very easy to drive long distances.

IMO it offers the perfect balance between speed, handling, practicality, and efficiency. I actually find the ride quality to be a bit better in the GTI over the GLK when driving through broken pavements (could have something to do with the runflat tires found on my GLK). The sound insulation is also on par (the more upright stance of the GLK is to blame here).
I would've never imagined that to be the case but my experience speaks for itself.

Sound insulation, I'd have to disagree on. The GTI has significantly more road and wind noise!
That being said I want that noise when I'm driving the GTI aggressively as I love the sound of the exhaust, especially when you redline the first few gears and hear that "braaapp" from the exhaust between upshifts

2024 GLC300, 2014 BMW M235i
I "jumped ship" from a Mazda RX-8 to a BMW M235i. We still have our 2012 GLK 350 and remain very happy with it - it serves it's mission quite well.
After putting about 2600 miles on my new M235i, it has become much more apparent how "soft" the GLK is by comparison. This is not a complaint - the GLK is a very, very comfortable luxury car and I like it.
The M235i, on the other hand, fills it's place which is to say, sports car! I'm very glad to have a bit of both worlds.

The M235i (or the eventual M2) and Cayman will be my top choices until something else comes along that can spark my interest.

Just found out from the SA who sold me the GTI that the GLK has been sold.
Didn't think it could've been sold that fast considering the dealership listed it for $37,995.
