2010 GLK350 Front Grill Chip

Hi Everyone,

My front grill had an unfortunate mishap on the highway - a piece of debris flew up and chipped/damaged the front grill - fortunately this was the only damage, it could have been much worse!

I'm trying to figure out my options - the dealership said the ENTIRE grill needs to be replaced at a cost of $800+

Insurance will cover as a comprehensive claim but the deductible is $500.

Is there anyway I can just buy the strip that is damaged and replace that or do I need to replace the whole grill? Or is it possible to make some kind of patch-job and then disguise it by plasti-dipping the grill black so that it is camouflaged?

Thank you in advance!

If it is just that strip, you could remove the grill, and use some epoxy (Bondo) with a light filler and fill in the area. To avoid a heavy blob, you can tape card board behind to keep the repair area thin. Make sure you clean the area with acetone or MEK to insure a good bond. A quick sanding and some spray paint and no one would know. If "YOU" would know, then this would be a good time to paint the bars flat black as many others have done. This would mean that you didn't need to match the paint.

Also there is one damaged but with good pieces that you need on the bay for a price of $90. The question is how difficult will it be to take one apart without breaking more pieces!

Thank you for the very helpful hints and tips. I will definitely try the first option of repair and then look into fully replacing if I can't get that to work. Unfortunately I have zero experience doing anything like this, but will give it my best shot.

Thank you again for the help and suggestions, it is very much appreciated.
