x204 trailer wiring harness

I have not yet seen the 2013 X204 (GLK250) we just purchased (being shipped). It comes with a tow hitch which is supposedly factory-installed (class II). However, it was never used, and the person selling the car looked underneath and didn't see any plug. Anyone have a picture where their harness/plug is? And has anyone installed a 3rd party wire harness? I need the 7 pin. I have a boat with surge brakes, but need the reverse on the back up brake lock out solenoid.

Thanks,

Gordon

Hopefully it will have the OEM hitch & wiring harness. After much time, I found the part numbers for the 2010-2012 harness (2 p/ns) but I have not found the later model. If you come across a GLK of the same year, beg the owner to allow you to disassemble the rear cargo area & get the part numbers off of the harness! There is also a possibility that a control module is needed too. Good luck.

Please send those P/Ns when you get a chance. At least a point to start from.

Thanks,

So, now that I had a few minutes, I looked more closely and I see that the hitch is 2" so looks like a class III, but it isn't. So looks aftermarket (probably for carrying bikes, etc.). So, Mr. Wabbit, if you could please let me know how you wired it, that would be great. I see that it is very easy to get to the left and right side wiring, and I think I can run one turn signal wire to one side or the other. However, I don't see any obvious place where I can pass the wires through to underneath the car. Any suggestions on that are greatly appreciated (pictures would be even better). Also, did you use a converter, and did you get a 12v supply to the converter so the load of the trailer isn't going through the GLK's turn, brake and running wiring? If so, where'd you tap the 12v? I do have a 12v accessory outlet in the back so I could probably tap off of that (assuming it is a 20 amp circuit). Also, does your GLK have an external/supplemental tranny cooler? I just looked from the top (first time to open the hood) and I can't tell if there are lines comes up from the tranny. There is a smaller condenser (radiator) in front of the main one; I don't know yet if that is AC or tranny/steering. I gotta locate a service manual so I can figure where everything is.

Here is a link to the part numbers & other trailer hitch parts for a 2010-2012 GLK.

There is a module or controller listed for most models of the GLK which is not included in the $800.00 OEM trailer hitch accessory kit. This tells me some but not all applications need the module. Also take note of how the OEM hitch is constructed. The rear bumper reinforcement has another piece of steel added to the inside which is where the hitch assy. is fitted. Std. beam weighs less than 15 lbs. & the other is something like 40 lbs. if memory serves at all. Also the OEM has the two reinforcements which run up into the unibody. Sturdy! Hope this helps. Good luck!
