ML320 repair issues and costs
Hello
I took my car to a shop because it was hesitating on acceleration. I used the tool and I got an MAF code, an EGR code and a misfire code. I replaced the MAF (Bosch) and replaced all the plugs. I didn't do the EGR thing because it seemed like something I shouldn't try at home alone.
Basically I'm trying to understand the estimate I've been given. What could they mean by retrofitting of control module? Apparently this is directly related to the MAF replacement. I can't/won't pay $600+ for this service but I'd like to be able to understand better what's going on. I will be going to a mechanic friend to help with checking the EGR pipe for clogging. Any help is welcome thanks.
PS: $1 is around N200.

Retrofitting in the automotive world is installing something, as a feature, which did not come on the original vehicle, e.g. power windows, power seats, etc.
Your mechanic is using definition #4 meaning update the control module. But the big question is, what control module?

You have already replaced the MAF sensor. There is no MAF control module. Replacing the MAF takes 5min. Your mechanic is taking you for a ride......

Just as I suspected. Typical.
I think I'll just have them do the brake thing and after getting it back I'll attack the EGR valve/tube with a friend and see where it goes from there.
Thanks a lot!
