How Much is Service B?
My ML is due for Service B within the next 800 KM.
My dealer told me it's a major service and costs >$500.00 (excluding the AdBlue refill).
The DEF tank has to be flushed too.
Is that a reasonable charge?

A dealer near my office lists the "B" service as being $589 (US) for a 6 cylinder model. It mentions nothing about diesels being more...or less.I've been under the impression that the AdBlue tank doesn't need to be "flushed"...just refilled. While I owned my BMW they changed their policy of flushing every 24 months to refill every 12 months (if that means anything).
I hope you realize that refilling the AdBlue tank is *very* easy and *very* cheap to do yourself...the dealers try to rob you when doing it.

Guess I'll call around a few dealers and compare the rates.
BTW, how long does the Service B take?
Do you get a loaner vehicle or wait at the dealer?

Dealer usually has the car for a day or less with the B service. I do not even have to take it in myself, they pick up, leave a loaner, usually a new C Class, and do the reverse when the car is completed. All this at no charge of course. And, yes the price will vary a bit depending on the dealer and what actually needs to be done due to mileage on your car.

In the GTA all MB Dealers are corporately owned by MB Canada with the exception of Durham, Oakville and Burlington. So you may get different prices at these locations

I checked and Service B does require flushing the AdBlue + refill.
The price quoted is CAD$680.00+taxes.
Takes most of the day so a loaner vehicle is provided if booked in advance.

Slightly off topic but perhaps helpful: I just had service A done on my ML550 by a highly recommended indie shop here in Calgary who works on nothing but Mercedes and BMWs. It was $180 including parts, labour, and taxes. They did it in 45 minutes while I waited. The last time I had it done was at the dealer for $380, also while I waited but for 1-1/2 hours. So I guess I paid $200 for a car wash and a couple of cups of coffee the first time.

2.5 hours @ $135 = $337.50
Oil filter $24.75
Sealing ring $1.63
Environmental charge, filter $0.50
Environmental charge, oil, 8 @ $0.10 = $0.80
Mobil 1, 8 @ $8.98 = $71.84
Battery set (?) $ 15.38
Engine Air filter $75.75
Combo (cabin) filter $68.40 (not necessary, but the book says to change it)
Fuel additives $12.75 (I would not have permitted this if I had known beforehand)
"Shop materials and supplies" $40.50
GST $32.50
Replaced key fob battery N/C
Normally tire rotation is included but I told them not to. I change my own summer/winter wheels.
Normally they change wiper blades (at extra cost) but I told then not to as I had just installed new ones.
The service includes a bunch of checks, most of which are only marginally necessary -- signs of obvious leaks, tire pressures, etc etc.
They recommended -- at extra cost -- a brake flush but I declined. Calgary is very dry and water rarely collects in brake fluid.

I guess $680 for a bluetec is reasonable since that includes flushing the def tank and refilling with ad blue.

Except that I have read that flushing the tank is only necessary if you let it get very low, and filling with adblue is right up there with topping up the windshield washer fluid. People in the know buy their adblue from a VW dealer for half the Mercedes cost. Identical stuff, apparently.

I have a 2012 E350 Bluetec and have learned a few things that should help folks. I was not happy hearing I could be paying a MB dealer close to $40.00/ gallon for a simple urea solution. At Walmart in West Palm Beach, FL I paid precisely $11.99 (US) for an ISO standard 22241 DEF 2.5 gallon container of the solution with pouring flex tube!
That works out to $4.80/gallon. The filler on my vehicle is easily accessible in my truck. I wiped up a few spilled drops (was a little hard to tell when it was about to be full; listening was the tip off as the fluid reached the top).

So to do a DIY comparo of costs, here's about what I come up with:
Labor: Free?
Oil Filter: $9.94 OEM Mann from autohausaz.com
Mobil 1 0w40 (8): $50 from Walmart, with 2qts left over
Engine air filter (pair): $25.25 OEM Mann from autohausaz.com
Cabin air filter (pair): $24.53 OEM Mann from autohausaz.com
Total Cost: $109.72
Now, you should invest in a mightyvac system for changing oil in your vehicles. It will pay for itself very quick!

I also do my own maintenance, except trans fluid. For my diesel I estimate about $150 in oil & filters for a B Service. Probably takes me about 2-3 hrs, not rushing.

ML 350 Bluetec - Service B
Hi, I was quoted Cdn$770 (Mississauga). Seems rather steep. I am tempted to check States side (Buffalo). Any comments/thoughts are welcome. Thanks in advance.
