w164 drivers seat replacing questions.
Looking at replacing the Drivers seat on my new to me ML320 CDI (04/2006 RHD)
The seat part of mine is ripped and I have found one at a wreckers.- out of a 2010 ML320.
The plugs are different on the 2 seats, they both have the 2 sets of plugs - one has multiple fine wires (2+3+3) which I assume are the airbag/seatbelt tensioner/occupancy switch?
but there is another black plug which in my car has 3 heavier wires, but in the seat at the wreckers only has 2 heavy wires.
I assume these are the power for the seat controls. Can anyone let me know what the 3rd wire in my car is for?.
Neither seats have memory
My car has a function that when you open the door you can only play with the seat for a limited time before the seat switch is inoperable (unless you put in key etc). I thought that might explain the 3rd wire (being something to do with the possibility of memory? and a constant power source..
Also will the car get an airbag error if I just unplug the seat? will I need to disconnect the Battery first? (have played a bit with E36 BMW and you disconnect the Battery for 10 minutes before playing with the airbag). What about the backup battery?
I am only a newbie so hopefully this is the right place to ask this question.

Thanks for the thought - I thought it was likely
Just had a look and unfortunately the 3 wire seat doesn't have the footwell lights.
Do you know if I will get a canbus error if I disconnect the plug and put a multimeter on it to see if its an earth and one or 2 positives

Finally got the multimeter out and one of the terminals is constant 12v, one is earth, and third (on the car) is the supply that seems to run for a few minutes and then go off, I assume this function has been deleted in later cars (and you can always adjust the seat).
Cant really see the function of the constant supply as my seats don't have memory.
Thanks for reading this, and feel welcome to add anything
