ABS ESP PRE-SAFE message

I got these messages on the dash over the weekend on my 06 S430 (ABS ESP PRE-SAFE). I dropped it off at the Dealer today. After an inspection the Service Rep. informs me that a connector under the rear seat apparently got wet and corroded away. He said it is not covered under the warranty and is sticking me with a $866 bill. I am pissed since I never drink or eat in my cars. I did not spill anything in the rear seat... What to do ?? !

I totally agree, I had a wet connector under the seat in my Corvette and the entire computer was replaced under warranty. But maybe the Corvette does get better service than the Mercedes, after all I do own both and see both dealerships. Jim

When I talked to the Service rep. yesterday I told him not to fix it. I had an idea to bring it to Manhattan Mercedes. He said okay but I would owe him $250 for the time spent on diagnosing the problem. So I decided to have it fixed there. I picked it up today. Total was $838. WTF !..... A while back I had it in the shop for a problem with the rear windows rolling back down about 6 inches after rolling them up using the auto-express button. He said they could not duplicate the problem. I think what happened is 1 night when I got home I rolled the windows up and they rolled back down and I didn't notice, then we had a thunderstorm. The rear seat probably got soaked. I informed the service manager about this and I duplicated the problem right in front of him today. He said he is going to talk to Mercedes to see what they can do . Btw, the dealer is Prestige.

Be sure to post the followup. Service at the dealership is extremely important given what you pay for the service and the investment in the car. Jim
