1996 E320 Transmission - Sudden No Fwd / No Reverse ?
Ok,, new here but have a puzzler... Car drove perfect to the store, then when I came out.. it won't go AT ALL ! Starts fine, shifts to every gear, but nothing! Like permanent neutral?
I jacked it up in the parking lot, looked under to confirm shift linkage is moving. Even put it on jack stands, and no movement from the back wheels,, except a little slight effort to spin in L1.
Had it towed to transmission shop and they said it needed rebuilt. ($2700) I call BS ! I don't buy that for a sudden total failure such as this... Towed it back home and trying to learn the car better to find the answer.
(Had a bad wire harness a year ago to the neutral safety switch that I completely rebuilt and replaced the neutral switch) its' been working perfect since then.. I know that model has bad (defective) factory wiring, so I fear a similar problem with another harness.... Maybe?
Any help appreciated... Thanks, Tryon

Did you get the codes checked? Might be more of a electrical issue rather than mechanical.
Also check these videos out, it's about the same 722.6 transmission and car as yours. It is quite informative even the fault might not be the same.
Part 1: The problem defined
Part 2: Pulling the diagnostic trouble code(s)
Part 3: Removing the valve body
Part 4: Replacing the conductor plate
Part 5: Replacing the valve body
Part 6: Success or Failure
