GLE configurator + specs

I just noticed that the GLE configurator and specifications (for both the Coupe and SUV form) are available on Mercedes-Benz Germany's web site.

If you use Chrome, you can easily use the Google Translate feature to get the english translation. Some options will not be available to us, and not every market will get all the models offered (we Canadians get the V6 diesel and no electric, US gets the 4-cyl diesel and electric).

Worth a look!

Very Interesting. I have a 2012 ML350 BlueTec right now and am quite happy with it, but... in my idle moments I have been considering going to a 2016 GLE 250d... until I heard about the new hybrid GLE 550e. The hybrid sounds amazing, 71 mpg (listed as 3.3l/100km). I'd save so much money in fuel costs, that I could cover the higher price in about 45 years

I noted a few interesting things by looking at the German versions.

1. All of the GLE models offered in Germany come with the new feature called Dynamic Select. It allows you to select from six driving modes. The MBUSA web site says that Dynamic Select will not be available on diesel models... it could be an error?

2. All of the new diesel models sold in Germany will come with the new 9 speed transmission, while the MBUSA site says 7 speeds (7G) on the GLE diesel.

3. It is difficult to do apple-to-apples pricing comparisons in German and US models as the standard features may not be the same (you can still buy a GLE with a manual transmission)... however, the prices look roughly equivalent after the euro/dollar conversion.

Having said that... it looks like the hybrid will cost $12k-15K more than the equivalent diesel.

4. Also, interesting to note that the hybrid over here will be the 550e and in Germany it will be the 500e, presumably meaning a smaller V6 engine along with the electric.

Just some passing thoughts. I think the hybrid will be not worth the investment (for me).

From where I stand, the hybrid is not an option (it's not even available in Canada), but as mentioned, we get the 350d which is decent. I wonder what kind of highway-only range you get with the hybrid. Urbain driving you get the brake regeneration, but on the highway, I'm guessing you get normal fuel economy or is there still an advantage? (Still only 30km electric-only range). I'm also not a fan of the rising floor in the trunk. Too bad they couldn't pull off something like the new XC90 T8 for the battery placement.

I was told from a dealer here that the 350d would get the 9-speed which will boost the fuel economy even further (europe specs say 6.5L combined, but the Canadian 5-cycle test probably make it 7.5-8L/100km)

Not sure about the dynamic select, but I hope we get it (could be included with AIRMATIC).

I know it's a pipe dream but would be nice to have the 6 cylinder diesel here in the US again. The take rate on manual transmission cars is so low, there's no way MB would pay for the EPA certification to bring in a manual transmission GLE. Not sure if I would want it in a GLE anyway. The last manual suv I had was a Nissan Xterra, totally different animal.
