New GLA45 Owner
Its been quite a while since my last MB, a 2000 SLK230. Been almost as long since I first joined this forum back in 2003 when I was thinking about buying a ML430. Wasnt active, only a post or two, before I decided to go with a F250 diesel instead (for towing reasons). In the interim I forgot I even had a login here. So being new old stock, I figured I'd re-introduce myself.
I'm coming out of a Gen VI Golf R and was weighing the new R, an M235xi or the S3 against, believe it or not, a 3-series diesel Sportwagon. I wont bother trying to explain why, but as strange as it might seem to some, it was a valid conundrum to me. As I was mulling over the pros and cons of this quartet, it occurred to me that a GLA45 might actually give me a quite a bit more of what I was looking for in a single package.
In doing the research, I started to spec one out and figured I'd do a test drive to see if I wanted to put in an order for the 2016. I'm not sure which set of wacko geniuses at MB/AMG thought the GLA45 formula was a good idea, but all I can say is, damn... what a great SUV/CUV/Wagon/Hot Hatch or whatever this thing is. Kudo's to them for being creative and bold enough to build it, let alone prescient enough to recognize that a few of us here in the US would fall in love with it.
As luck would have it, the local dealer just so happened to be running a big sales event this afternoon. After the test drive and a brief and stress-less negotiation, I wound up getting too good a deal to pass up, so I signed for a 2015 off the lot. Dont think I'll miss the extra grunt of the '16, though a few slight pangs of regret linger over the tranny improvements. But I'll have it in two days as opposed to Christmas Eve and outside of the color, it was only a night package off what I would have ordered anyway. Nice way to make a comeback after all these years.
