R500 A/C Issue

A/C never really cools off on driver's side. The passenger gets plenty cool, after a a little while.

First took the car to a certified mechanic, then to the dealership; both state that the heater box or heater core needs to be replaced.

Dealership quoted $6,600.00 for the repair. Ludicrous!

Has anyone else had this issue?

Hi,

I had such an issue, and in my case it was cured by adding some freon to the A/C system. And it was dirt cheap :-)

My A/C is ice cold at start up (drops to 60F) and warms to 80F when the engine reaches normal operating temperature. Evaporator is creating condensation (i.e. getting cold). Connected a coolant servicing gauge, no R34a pressure leak. Believe I have a heater valve internal leak.
I hope I'm not looking at the same issue.

Found it is the expansion valve. Dealer explained most common A/C problem if not leaking will be the expansion valve. Looks like a pain to replace.
