Which model of iPod compatible?

Hi all,

After searching unsuccessfully over the Internet, I gave up on the idea to make my R500 compatible with audio bluetooth.

Therefore, my next plan is to acquire an iPod that I can connect to the iPod connector that is in the glove box.

Can anyone tell me which model(s) of iPod are compatible, and what is the best advice? I saw online a cheap 2nd hand iPod touch 32GB, with the same connector. Will it do?

Thanks!

I have ipod classic 160gb, and work great, have all my songs with me all the time. I am pretty sure the ipod touch would work too. I did have a problem with the ipod connector showing device not compatible. end up problem is with the cable. My dealership got me new cable under warranty and is all good now.

There are solutions available, but I feel your pain. Have you tried the Viseeo Tune2air plugged into the iPod connection? Many have reported good luck with that.

Thanks! I'd love to be sure it works before I buy it though, I hope someone can soon confirm ..?

By the way, will the cable charge your iPod? And do you need to switch it off or you keep it on at all times?

I had seen that too but am a bit suspicious, fearing it could disrupt phone conversations. Do you have any clue whether it actually does? And if not, is it the model WMA3000 that fits our Mercedes R?

the cable do charge the ipod, so it will alway be on, no problem there. also the system have a pretty clean menu that you can see all your playlist, artist, and such.

i do have a ipod touch 64gb, i can try it later this week and keep you updated.

The phone will connect separately to each BT device. Older phones may not manage this as well and you might experience some quirks, but new phones should handle it no problem, unless it's a cheap Chinese knock-off.

If you want to try something a bit cheaper, and I suspect works just as well, check out items like these on amazon:

Hi Marc, thanks for that! In the meantime, I found a VMA3000A unit online here in Switzerland for less than 80USD, so I went for it. It just came by post now, so I'm gonna try it very soon.

@dinfung, I would still be interested in the results with an iPod touch, just in case I need a 2nd option.

Cheers.

I use an iPod of either 5th or 4th gen of 32gig. hooked up all of the time in the glove box. It works perfectly with gobs of music and is fully controllable to play by artist, playlist, genre or song name.

Update: Unfortunately, this model is not compatible, and useless for me. It's got an MDI connector instead of a 30 pin iPod connector. Anyone interested, make sure your car has an MDI connector before buying this. The correct model should have been the Viseeo VMA1000.

Sorry about that. I didn't look at the website close enough. It looks like they discontinued the 30 pin version as it doesn't appear to be on their website anymore
