Interest? Carbon Fiber Diffuser R-Class Quad Tip
I'm trying to set up a group buy for this diffuser that fellow forum member JeanH made for his R-Class. His diffuser is a one off but I'll be using my own company, Formed Dynamics, to manufacture and produce these parts in California. Please let me know if you are interested as the more people we get the cheaper it will be. Even one person who is interested can cut costs considerably.
Logistically speaking your car will have to be a 2006-2010 R Class equipped with the AMG rear bumper. This will be made with quad tip openings so those of you with the non AMG model will need to change your exhausts to quad tips (very easy to do as these tips area all over eBay). The company may also be able to make the diffuser with a dual tip opening as well.

I'm pursuing a few different avenues at the moment. No real set ETA as I'm trying to find info from all sources.
The place I got in contact with wants $2,000 for the first one and $500 for every additional one. So if I can just get one other person to jump in with me it'd bring the price down from $2,000 to $1,250 each piece.
I see you have a 2012 R. This would only work on 2006-2010 R Classes with an AMG rear bumper.

The price seem very fair for me, but I need to double check if it can be fit on my 2012 rear bumper. I will let u know ASAP.
Btw, I really like your R63. Good job

So first you need the AMG bumper. Second you'll need to do something with the exhaust. You can either buy a whole 63 exhaust system (not recommended and very expensive) or the more favorable option is to just buy the authentic AMG quad tips on eBay and weld them onto your stock exhaust system.
The AMG bumpers can be found online quite commonly and aren't too expensive- you'll just need to paint it the correct color if it isn't. The exhaust tips are available anywhere from $50-300.
http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_trks...at=0&_from=R40
Here's one that's under $300 shipped:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/06-07-08-09-...21a62d&vxp=mtr
The current price of the diffuser is $2,000 for the first one and $500 for every additional one made after that. So you can say R&D costs $1,500. The more people interested, the more we can split that $1,500 up.

I don't understand what the issue is. Muffler shops do welding all the time and it's a piece of cake. If you don't want to weld, you can buy the R63 exhaust assemblies and it'll likely bolt right into place.
Are you in the US? All R Classes 2008-2010 have AMG bumpers standard.

Alright so everything mentioned prior has fallen through. However, I have good news. I've found a local shop that can do carbon fiber work and I'm getting two of these diffusers made, one for me and one for another forum member. If others are interested for a CF diffuser as pictured above, we're looking at around $1,500 a piece + shipping from Seattle, WA. Please PM me or leave a message here if you're interested.
This piece is already going into production this week. If you want one, you can have it at your doorstep sometime in the very near future!

Are these still available? Sorry -- haven't logged on in a long while... by the way, I have the capri blue w/ tan interior one. Just turned 60K on it.
I wonder if it would look ok with capri blue...
I like your calipers Nathan. You may recall I was thinking of doing mine in blue and posted photoshopped pics of it. Still thinking about it. One thing is I am not nearly as well connected in terms of knowing where to go etc to get things done.
The person who posted that his R63 was for sale -- I was looking at that before he purchased it, and drove back to show it to my wife to get her thoughts, and as we turned into the lot, we saw that he had just purchased it. Lol... I guess there were two in Columbus.
A MB dealer here told me last weekend that they had one for sale... for 1 hour. Someone in Washington bought it and paid well for it. I am thinking these might start appreciating soon. Which is a reason I also am thinking of just keeping it 100% stock. Sort of torn.

The guy that made these CF diffusers locally seems to no longer exist- no one answers when I call and last I heard he was moving elsewhere.
However, if you are still interested, I have a friend who runs Rottec Carbon in Vancouver BC and he has CF connections. Since I have the mold, I believe he can make more pieces for me but timing and pricing will likely be different from before.
It would look great on your Capri R. I just met up with AMGOneDay a few weeks ago with his Capri Blue R63 and we had our cars parked next to each other, the paintwork is actually very similar (mine is Majestic Black- Chromite Black in Euro markets). Both are dark blue but Capri is slightly more saturated. Honestly, the CF diffuser would look good on any paint as it's a vast improvement over the stock, textured, plain black plastic.
If you are still interested I can talk to this shop for you.
Yes- paint the calipers! It would look amazing. Finding all of the right shops is a matter of doing a ton of research and maybe even "testing" these shops out with smaller jobs first. My brakes were a three shop endeavor for me. My independent took care of the disassembly and let me store my car on their rack for a week while I had them painted at a body shop that has prior experience with doing calipers. I also had a window tinting shop make the reverse stencils for the AMG lettering so the shop could paint the AMG letters in. Since the shop has the file stored, I could have them print off another set of reverse stencils for you, so you can do the exact same thing. You'd only have to find the R&R shop and paint shop!
Can you remind me where you're located again, from what I recall it was the South but I don't recall 100%.
Keeping it stock or modifying is the age old question. I like to live for today and enjoy my cars now so I'll change it to how I see fit. With that said, most of my mods are reversible, at least to some extent and my car can be converted back to stockish.

(A sliver rebuilt R63 sold for more then what I bought mine for out of Vancouver with a full body kit and custom interior a few months ago)
Did you drive my R (Capri with Gray)? It was bought from Toy Barn in Dublin in some time in 2013.
We bought it form a private seller out of Columbus. It was serviced at Crown MB before it shipped to us in August.
Wow another R63 coming to WA?

I need to log on here more often. Yes, I did drive it. I was headed back to show it to my wife, and when we pulled into the lot -- a guy was loading his stuff into it from his other car. Sold.
