Warm start problems (w126) 350 SDL

Hi there,

I finally got my "new" 1991 350 SDL safetied and driving, and I've been having a weird problem. It has never happened before, even when i tried the same scenario. Just recently, whenever I try to start the car after having it off for only a couple minutes, the battery seems dead and the car must be boosted to start. Even with cables hooked up, it barely starts when still warm. As long as it has been sitting for 25 minutes +, it fires right to life instantly. I haven't been able to find any information online, and according to the temperature gauge it is running at an normal temperature. Any help/ideas would be great as I am new to these cars and have no idea where to start!

Thank you,

Marshall

I had a similar issue with a gasser. Cleaned and tightened all the connections from the battery to the starter and the grounds and everything was OK. This can be a classic expansion and contraction of dissimilar metals making the resistance between cable and battery, starter, relay, frame, etc. increase to the point where it will not start. If all other electrics are OK then it is most likely between the battery and the starter. If everything is dim, especially the headlights, then it is most likely the ground side. I would clean it all up because it most likely has not been done in the 25 years since the car was new. Nothing like bright shiny metal to metal connections.
