W126 Muffler - Ansa vs. Bosal
Time for a new center muffler on the big Benz. Does anyone care to offer advise on what brand of muffler? The Ansa and Bosal are very close in price, is there a quality difference?
FYI, the muffler failed at the outlet weld, and looks a bit weak all over. Cat, rear muffler and all pipes are nice and solid so I think I can get away with just the new center. That is, if the muffler shop and remove seperate the center and rear sections. Previous owner welded them.

Neither, go with straight pipes in place of the center mufflers. Saves money, will free up a few hp and will give you a nicer exhaust note, but not too loud.

Super Member
When my dad had a 500sel back in the 80's we changed out the entire exhaust system because of a bad cat.
We have a new pipe from exhaust manifold y pipe. >> aftermarket hi-flow cat >> Glasspak resonator >> a high flow turbo muffler >> chrome 3 inch tip out of rear.
It sound good with some V8 rumble but not loud at all.
It gave the V8 a lot more power. When I drive it. All my buddies were very impress with the power improvement.
all the part were pretty affordable.

Thanks for the tip! I did as you suggested and had straight pipes put in. The car is still pretty quiet inside and out, at least until you really get on the throttle.
They put in the pipes and put a piece of steel across to mount at the original points. Pretty nice job, and they charged me $100. I figure about $25 of that is the "working on a big Mercedes" premium.
