throttle return springs
if that's the right term. When I replaced the head gasket on '91 300SE... in the process one of the 2 return springs came unhooked, and I'm unsure where it goes. Any chance someone could describe or have a picture? The manual has some fuzzy pics and all I can make out is 1 spring. Any help appreciated. Thanks

not exactly the same config, but think I see the 2 springs in your pic. Yours kinda look like they have a rubber accordion cover thing going on?, if I'm looking right. I'll post a pic, if I can't match it up... assuming folks out there wanna look. Thanks!

a pic... anybody
I attached a pic... the spring on the left popped off months ago... I attached it where you see.. which doesn't look right. anyway... if one of you all has any comment on my pic, much appreciated.
background: I'm so close, I feel. Code start issue... 3 or 4 tries, I've read, but perhaps haven't understood everything.
Did head gasket, valve stem seals, mani, exhaust gaskets, timing covers sealed up, chain guide, radiator, fuel filter, fuel pump, plugs, wires, cap, rotor, trans lines, volt reg.. replace ovp with cheap version... really bad, assume a defective one... put the original back in, The economy gauge is not to the left on idle, so vacuum?... long story, sorry... want to at least get springs right before moving on... thanks!

this is a big ask... but if anyone happens to own a 91 300se with asr, and they want to pull their air cleaner off and take a pic... asking alot... but dang if I can find a pic anywhere. Mine is definitely different then anything I've seen, so assuming it's because of the asr. if no go... then I'll just have to keep looking. Thanks!

I had the same problem you had. I had to remove the linkage to get to the EGR tube, but one of the springs came off in the process. I eventually found out where it is most likely supposed to attach at the passenger side end. I fortunately had a few pics of it but they left a little to be figured out.
I circled in red where the spring should attached. It is the return spring for the throttle linkage (rod) as opposed to the throttle cable.
The problem I am now having, and maybe you can help me with it, is that once I reinstalled the throttle linkage, I noticed that there is a lot of slack in the gas pedal. More than I remember before I took it apart. The ASR warning light is also on now. I thought maybe the spring-loaded rod from the throttle body to the linkage had worn out, but the new one I ordered was the same.
Basically, there is about 1-2 cm of play from when you pull the throttle cable and the rod slides up against the internal spring. I know that everything was reinstalled correctly. So I am just wondering if yours has this amount of play/slack.
From the picture you posted, it looks like you also have the same amount of slack. I marked your picture in red to indicate the slack. I'd be curious to know if you are having the same symptoms I am having. Good luck.
