Does anyone recommend getting an aftermarket stereo?
I have been thinking about replacing my the stereo on my '99 S500, but i am worried that it won't function with the bose system... does anybody have any experience with this?

If it was me,I'd upgrade the amp. Also have Best Buy install it.

To upgrade radio or not
If it was my car,if radio plays well, and amp was started to distort,I would upgrade the amp.The amps are known to fail, after so many years use.Being the stock amp wasn't that powerful.I'd increase by 100 watts RMS.

You can replace the stereo, just be careful to pick one that has two pairs of pre-amp outputs.
Beside the stereo get the correct adapter wiring harness for mercedes with Bose system.
Should be like this:

I bought a after mkt radio for my car when the tape player packed it in and I could not run the FM modulator for my IPOD! I put in a Pyle for not a lot of bucks and it has no tape or CD player! but has aux jack and USB port ! Plug in my stick and more tunes than I will listen to in a year!! The nice thing is no CD"S laying around the car gettin beat up!! I had Best Buy installed it for me as they had a reall cracker jack installer who did a great job!! Took him a couple of min to fig out the amp as it needed to have a hot lead from radio to work and that lead was the power ant wire . I believe the PA is run off the amp!! Works great!!!

I have this same car. Even the color. Only purchased after losing my other MB to an accident
I need a new stereo and interested in the head unit with USB for stick. Can you suggest a particular unit?
Thank you

You could go with the Grom adapter for the old head unit if still operational, it gives you Bluetooth and USB adapter for iPhone or Android. But alas no touchscreen...

Factory refresh Becker
Of course the alternative is keeping everything stock. I just got my becker 1492 head unit back from Becker New Jersey and it works great like new. Plug and Play yourself - just need radio removal tools (from the dealer or ebay). The factory Bose amp works great after 20 years in mine. If it dies I will likely send it away to Becker as well!
