2002 430 won't start
Hey fellas, used to be a member here many years ago and now I'm back seeking some help. My buddy has a 2002 430 and the car won't start. After we scanned for engine codes, we took the battery terminals off and put them together to reset memory- after this the car CRANKS and turns over for a second 3 times before not cranking on the later key turns..
Ran the engine codes with an Autel scanner to find codes : P1911, P 1925, P20dc-2, P2071-8, p2221, p2108, p0122..
Can anyone help me out with any of these issues? Car has fuel pressure, injectors are good, I changed the battery in the key and starting to think its an EIS ignition issue.? any help is appreciated, rep points to any replies!
Thanks.

You gotta get it hooked to Mercedes SDS computer and see why it's not starting
the cps was the only easy thing it could have been
could be a fuel pump or fuel pump relay or coil
I highly doubt it's the battery , eis, shifter or brake switch because when those fail it won't even crank over , and you're saying it's cranking and trying to start t but just won't start
Sounds like it's not getting fuel or spark.

any leads on what to swap next?

If you're looking for parts to swap , you just get a matched set of all 4 components from the same donor Car - you'll need the key , the eis the shifter and the ecu. Matched sets sell for about $350 on eBay .
if they don't fix your issue you can always put them back up for sale on eBay and get your money back out of it since they sell easily

hey thanks for the replies fellas, i was able to get my old star/das system on the car and it keeps coming back to no authorization from ESM.. my question is if i throw a used ESM and code it with star the car should be ready to go? or do i have to change the EIS/ ESM key and computer together. would like to just try to swap this ESM as all my snapon/ autel and star system keep coming back to the ESM fault/ replace floor shift.
any help?

What was the outcome
I have same problem but intermittent and getting worse.
Also when it won't crank the gear indication on the dash disappears.
Got another used ESM and swapped the eeproms over to retain my VIN data etc.
Fault still the same so I'm not convinced it's the ESM.
Seems a very rare fault as no searches reveal a similar situation.
CANBUS Voltages HI and LO are normal in active and sleep state.
Need to scope the CANBUS next
Had a look at the X15 16 17 Connectors and they are spotless no sign of water ingress .
Any further pointers welcome.

Bought a 2000 S430 with CAN communication issues that somebody else tried to hack up first. He swapped in a cluster and shifter board for testing purposes and couldn't get it to start without jumping the starter relay.
Found the CAN bus wiring bus bars under the dash were bypassed and crimped into a node on the driver's side. The big issue was nothing seemed to be communicating with the shifter and it didn't know it was in park. Found out that the TCM was full of water since they left it outside with the fuse panel cover missing. Bought a used TCM to fix that issue but it still wouldn't start. After purchasing a used shifter on ebay, the car started right up on the first try. The issue we're having now is that the P1925 code keeps coming up and won't clear out. Even after trying to run the "initial setup" function, it just skips the plan and says it's complete. I'm assuming this is because it's a used shifter and doesn't want to take any new information.
I'm sure a new shifter would be the fix for this but it doesn't seem to be throwing any faults and all of the CAN faults are gone now. I didn't want to spend more on a shifter than we paid for the car so I'm going to put the interior back together and see what happens with the used shifter for now.

I have never heard of swapping a used shifter into a W220 and having that work. We all would be very interested to hear how that works.
The shifter is one of the four "theft relevant" units on the W220. You normally CAN NOT, repeat, CAN NOT swap any one of the four units and drive the car. The only practical DIY fix is normally to buy ALL FOUR units from the SAME, RUNNING, car and swap them into your car. The four are KEY FOB, EIS, SHIFTER, and the ECM. The usual cost on eBay is about $350.

I honestly couldn't tell you why it's working. It shows that it's refused the start signal, but it still works. Maybe it's been bypassed somehow when the guy we bought it from was messing with the wiring.
We bought it for the hood and bumper and ended up with a running car (minus the cats). Found another bumper in the junkyard before we got this one into the building. It's for sale if anybody wants to buy it for $2000 We'll even put the interior back together.
You can figure out why this car works and sell the fix to everybody else and become a thousandaire

Usually Getting the four matched parts taken from the same donor car is the only fix. They are all coded together . Swapping one or two parts won’t do it. Sounds like this car has had other hacking on the CANBUS

I listed the 4 parts and you quoted them above did you even read ?
it never includes the cluster
the cluster is never part of the antitheft parts . Do you have any idea how to work on these cars ?

Secondly, yes I do know how to work on these cars and do everyday.
Third, I have done this enough to know that the instrument cluster is usually part of it on 2000+ S & CL models. I am not 100% sure on W210 but I am sharing my knowledge of what I have seen on year 2000+ models.
Fourth, have a great day!
