2001 S500 hesitant/slow start-help!
Hi. I have a 2001 S500 with only 60,000 miles on it. I hardly ever drive it. Saturday I noticed, when i tried to start it-it hesitated (like it didn't want to turn over)..it continued to turn over-and it finally started. After it started, the "Check Engine" light came on and stayed on. Then after I turned the car off; and started it an hour later, the check engine light went off and everything appeard fine. Could it be that my starter is going bad? My fuel pump playing out on me? I appreciate any help you can give. Has anyone else had this problem? Thanks

hmmmmm......
I do not know the exact term in English but I think you call them the "Start Spark Plug",I think they are the cause of your problem and they need to be changed.

It is not being driven enough and the battery is going "flat". Automobiles are ment to be driven and letting them sit around with out being driven is as bad or worse than excessive hard use. As a minimum you should start that car and drive it around for about 30 minutes every 7~10 days. Drive it long enopugh to get the exhaust system hot enough to evaporate all of the moisture and also the crankcase moisture. This should be enough to keep the battery charged.
I have seen cars that are used only during the winter season here in Palm Beach that are only driven 2K~3K miles a year. The tires dry rot on them and the batteries go bad before they get 15K miles!!!

How do I know if its the battery? Please help
With only 60k miles; there can't be much wrong with this car. I believe my issue is a battery. How do i know--do i need to have it tested? Yesterday, the car wouldn't start at all-then finally it did, but now my service engine light is on. I'm afraid to drive it. Can i buy and replace the battery myself?

You were right! I took the car in and they tested it; its the "crankshaft Sensor" that needs to be replaced. Luckily-i bought the extended warranty from the STEALORSHIP and now i only have to pay $100.00. Thanks again
