2003 S430 SRS Light Reset

Is there a way to reset the SRS light and "CAUTION AIR BAG MALFUNCTION - VISIT SERVICE SHOP" from the gauge cluster? I avoid the dealers as much as possible and we all know how they operate. It can be reset in about 5seconds for about 50.00, or the service writer will tell me the sensors are bad (only 58000 miles), this needs replacement, etc... 2000.00 later - was it changed or just reset - I think we all know what I am talking about. I had BMW 740il that you could reset light by using a jumper wire across certain pins on the diagnostic plug.

I am just asking any information is helpful. I am new to the site but it seems very helpful.

Thanks,
Dave Dupor

I had similar problem on the S430, in the beginning intermitent SRS light and as days go by SRS light happens often. Brought the car to the dealership and diagnosis was a defective seat belt buckle replaced under warranty.

You could be playing "bet your life." How much is that worth to you?

2003 S430 SRS Light

I agree, I don't want to risk my life, but all these lights, resets, progmrams, etc.... it seems like a scam. I was burned by a Porsche dealer a few years back, the air bag light came on at 60000 miles, the service rep said I needed to replace all four sensors (they were faulty), a couple of relays ( almost $2000.00 in repairs), he even scared me and said if I got into an accident, the air bags would not deploy. I wanted a second opinion, went to another certified porsche dealer and the tech let me sit in the car while the tests were done, no faults, all sensors operating as deisigned, no relay issues - $50.00 for light reset - now you know why I think the way I do.

Do you think it could be a big problem? You seem to know a lot about Merc. from all your posts ( I appreciate them), I noticed that the doo assist on my drivers door was not working, so I disconnected the battery for 30 seconds, and now it works? weird or what?

Thanks for your help

My 2003 s-500 SRS light came on, my mechanic charged me $600.00 for Driver side buckle, 5 miles later the light came on again and said it was the sensor in the passenger side seat and child restraining seat. He said the system only shows one at a time and I need to fix it and test again? I asked him why it showed two issues? Gave me some non since answer. Wont the computer show all the issues at one time

From my limited knowledge of mercedes tech work , I have often found the culprate to be related to the passanger side , may be due to a lose connection under the seat or a faulty buckle. Sometimes they are just dirty and can be cleaned , If i was you i would first try this before the dealership. i will supply a vid. this did work for me. hope it helps your dilemma.

sidenote: This is not i in the video , just a random vid i found when i had the problem

DDCUSTOM on the subject of the driver's door close assist not working that is probably a separate problem. If the problem comes back again then it will require more than pulling the yellow fuse of disconnecting the battery. Most likely it has something to do with the actuator in that particular door. However, if it doesn't come back then you don't need to be concerned.

Lynchj, I am not sure if your mechanic had Benz or the proper tools. In my case, I just purchased the Autel AL619 since I had the 3 amigos on my LR. At the same time, I had ABS and SRS on the S500 and 330CiC. Anyway, the AL619 gave me both faulty buckle and passenger side seat and child restraining seat. Cleaned the buckle, erased code, and re-read code. Now only show passenger side seat and child restraining seat. Next step for me I guess is to clean every connectors under the passenger seat.

By the way, reset the 3 amigos and did not come back (been driving over 200 miles.) and reset both ABS and SRS on my 330CIC with same results. I hope this is just a hickup in the system.

its the passenger seat sensor, the light will go away if you sit on that side.

Try the simplest method that often helps:
spray electric cleaner into the driver side and passenger side buckles (the stuff evaporates quickly, no damage, no stain), repeat after a while and buckle up the belts, leave overnight.
Good chance the next day the warning light goes out as it should. Mine was tamed after two days with repeated treatments.
