Interesting evolution there. Looks like you found a nice new toy to play with both on and off the road. If you are mechanically inclined and have the tools you can take care of just about anything on these cars. I just recently changed out the ABC/power steering tandem pump on mine without any manuals or instructions. Just starting pulling things off until I was able to get to it and get it out and reversed the procedure to replace. Works great now but it is very time consuming to work on these V12TT. May be a bit easier working on yours without the turbos but I am sure that space is still VERY limited in the engine bay. Saved myself somewhere between $1K and $4.5K by DIY.

Have fun with your new mistress.

BTW...SEVEN WEEKS of negotiations? Most mortgages do not take that long to fund. I'm pretty sure they worked out the merger of JP Morgan and Chase Bank in less time.

Smile Congratulations!

Ulrich,

Sorry for jumping in a bit late.
I was pretty busy on our business recently. But I have to come to congratulate you on the new aquisition.

I know you have gone through every suggestions and been fully prepared and the S600 is your desire.
You, and us, won't be surprised if there is any problem surface up. And you won't be discouraged either.

Your heart set there to have this S600 and you deserve it. As I mentioned to one of my friend after his retiring, he should have a car like this before it is too late. Yes, why not just go and reward yourself after so many years hard working, especially for a man know and love cars.

"Do what you eager to do before you couldn't." These are the last words, from another friend, left to his daughter. Yes, he died from cancer and we just came back from his funeral. He was planning quite a while going back to his country after retiring, but now goes back in a coffin.

Anyway the enjoyment from working on this car will supersede any disadvantage it would bring to you. If this became one of your retirement hobby, the happyness is priceless. I know at this stage of the life you know what you are doing and you can always accomplish your goal, maybe not quick, but will.

For the messages, I had the similar situation that many message on the MFD during picking up the car. But after awhile most of them clear. This is especially true when the car was not driven for a long time or lost battery.

Do a thoroughly check base on those W220 common issue listed in Skylaw's Encyclopaedia. This is a warm up learning process.
Then start your fix and preventative maintenance and enjoy your mistress. Safety first, buy jackstands and ramps, make sure you understand how to properly jack up the car. You will be fine.
Bottom line is we are here to support you.

For the STAR, not sure where you are now, find a computer guy to help and get the right converter in case needed.
Bottom line is I may come to Montreal to help you when my business settle down as I am in Ottawa now. Actually I went to Napierville yesterday. And it would be really nice to see another S600 owner in person.

Congrat again and all the best my friend!

Howard

Like a mistress an early 600 will give you a few really good fast rides in the beginning, then you'll get a few dodgy leaks and you'll get your hands dirty. It'll all end in tears with your wallet being emptied a few times over. Then you'll go back to your daily driver.

Yeah,
well, my philosophy on negotiating is as follows:

1) I can afford to buy, but somebody has to sell: so - no impulse buying
2) I always offer 1/3 of the asking price
3) I never pay mor than I set before offering.

Following the above rules, I got the car for what I had prepared to buy it for (not what was asked),

BTW: When I bought my "other " MBE50, I negotiated with the MB dealer also for 7 weeks. Got the car (new) for $ 18k less.

Take your time.

I don't have mortgages, and I never dealt with Lehman!

If you'd offered me 1/3 I'd have ruled you out as a time wasting joker right off the bat and wouldn't have bothered responding to any further communication!

Well, I got the car at my price!

If you pay asking price, you pay too much.
Goto North Africa: If you pay the asking price, you are declared an idiot!
Negotiating means patience.
