If it is a one owner car, you should have access to the full service record What you can expect regarding future problems depends a lot on the past problems fixed. \
If you read the forum you'll see that this model and year has a tendecy to develop some problems that occur frequently.
Just to mention a few not so bad ones:
instrument cluster power loss
shifter stuck in park
PFS pump problems
engine mount break down
trunk opening/closing
one of the worse is the airmatic/struts
If your car is over some or all of these, good to know.
If not, I do not imply at all that you will be hit by any of them.
All of us going for a used car had problems here and there and we still love our MB. As will you.
Eager to see some pictures in and ext, and also have more details.

Couldn't have said it any better, Bone. We've had our 2000 S500 for going on three years now, and as much as I'm always on the prowl for another car (and I'm ALWAYS looking), I haven't been able to justify jumping into anything short of a Maybach, and my income level will probably never be high enough to afford that. Like everyone else, we've had some small problems here and there, but nothing that even comes close to making it worthwhile to jump ship. This is the first car I've ever owned that when I have to buy a part or (rarely) pay someone else to do some work, I'm happy to do so because I know that the grass really isn't greener on the other side of that new car lot.

Hey trombone thanks for the helpful info. I wish I could down load pictures I'm. Having a hard time. Can I do it on my phone or does it have to be a pc? I'm a newbie please help.and I bought my car from a dealer.
