HID Question. See picture.

I noticed my low beams don't have the nice cut off line. They seem to have a yellowish hot spot surrounded by very low light. I'm thinking the bulbs are the cause of it. I ordered new Osram Xenarc 5000K since I'm going to re-lamp both headlights completely.

Any of you experienced this with your headlights?

Thanks

Are you atleast 10 ft away from the wall? Reason being bc light output magnifies the closer you get to the object or wall.

About 5 feet on that picture, but even at further distance you can't see nice straight line.

Was it straight before? Bulb has nothing to do with the sharpness of it. It all boils down to lense claririty and bulb distance from the internal cut-off.

Honestly I can't really recall if it was. I watched a Fifth Gear episode once where they pointed this out and referred to as bad bulbs. I would also assume is due to optics.

Well if you've ordered the new bulbs you'll be easily able to confirm if the problem is with the bulb once you swap them

Just swap one and compare

Yeah. Well, I'm going to replace them anyway. Old ones are original, so they might go out soon.

Okay. I will most likely replace both and then post pictures of old vs. new.

Here is a picture with the new Xenarc Cool Blue Intense installed. I'm having an issue as you can see the right side is very different color temperature. Looks almost as 4300K. Going to have to return them. I'm not happy with this.

What temp scale are those xenarc bulbs? Also I repeat you have to be atleast 10 to 15 ft away from the wall to tell the difference in output. If you want bmw white output then you need to step up the kelvin around 5k.

These bulbs are 5000K. It shouldn't matter how far are you from the wall in order to tell the difference in color. I can clearly tell the left bulb spill is much whiter.

I'm just trying to help but since you seem to know more than me when it comes to projectors then I wish you the very best.

Be sure to let them warm up a half hours or more before comparing ... The colors on mine differ greatly when first turns on and through The warm up phase

Yeah I did. Very strange the color is slightly off.

Follow up HID

Today I replaced the passenger side bulb for new one, and color difference still remains. Both bulbs produce same color when ignited, but shortly after the right quickly turns yellowish. Both projectors are clean and lenses are not discolored.

Could it be the ballast?

Swap your bulbs left and right - if the yellowness remains on the same side it is not caused by the bulb.
