Window getting tinted soon, any WATCH OUTs?
Hello everyone. It's sunny here in sunny California, and my car is getting quite hot. I'm thinking of window tints for the whole car (minus windshield), is there anything I should watch out for? Water getting into the computers or something inside that will scratch the tint. Thanks

Don't go too dark you won't be able to see out of it at night
Both my s430 and cl500 are lightly tinted all the way around and it's great . My friend with 5% limo tint we can't even use his car at night it's so dangerous

Im at 18% besides windshield, and I am going to tint the windshield soon. I don't have a problem driving at night with the tint at all. But when ever my mom drives either of the cars (My Audi is also tinted with the same 18% ) I have to hear about it the whole ride....

Make sure you tell your occupants not to scratch or knock on the windows from the inside !!!
That is such a personal pet peeve of mine when people do that

The *******g amount of finger prints I have on my rear window when I drive one of my friend's pisses me off so much. I used to go threw so much window clear now I just ride with all 4 windows open.

You'll want to understand the tint that you're getting from the shop, including if it's ceramic or metallic and even the brand quality. The shop should be peeling back the rubber weather seal at the base to extend the film deeper as opposed to the lazier cut at the rubber line. Keep an eye out at the dot matrix section of your window as that's where bubbling and bad adhesion typically takes place.

You can do like 15% its the best of both worlds not to dark but also not to light. from what I hear is in california you can the rear door windows up to 5%, the rear windshield i think 35% and the front windows with no tint. I could be wrong

Nope that's not the rule in California .
It's very simple , your rear window and rear side windows can be any darkness .
Your front window and front side windows cannot be tinted at all .
The only exemption is medical exemption if you have eye sensitivity and you need a dr note
But - most cops look the other way towards tint violations , unless they are specifically looking to write you up for something

at night its sucks, you get used to it after a while but the front windshield has to go, I cant stand it anymore. I live in vegas so they dont really trip as much about tint, besides the front windshield.

You can only tint the rear window if you have two side mirrors.
Welp... Just found out i already have tint. 30% All around. The tint is doing very well, has not peeled has not bubbled. Cost a fair bit to remove it and re tint, so i'm going to wait until it starts bubbling. Thanks for the help everyone!!

Here in NC, window tint is part of the annual inspection. They pull the photometer out and if your tint doesn't allow 35% of the light in then it's not going to pass inspection. There is no tinting allowed of the front windshield with the exception of maybe a strip across the top.
