2003 S600 Muffler Delete

In case anyone is curious or interested, I deleted the mufflers off my '03 S600. It has a deep grumble at idle and a beautiful growl at higher RPM. It's exactly the sound I was hoping for out of it. Not too loud to draw attention from cops, but just loud enough to break necks.

Interior, you really can't hear a difference except at around 1400 rpm where you can hear a low tone. But at cruising speeds and even just around town, there's not a noticeable difference until you step on it and get up around 3,500 - 4,000 rpm and even then, it's mostly engine noise.

Here's a video with exhaust clip and drive by:

I'm sure everyone knows what stock sounds like, but just in case, here it is before the delete:

Did you remove the mufflers by the bumper or the resonators in the middle? You just straight piped it then?

Straight pipe would be all the way back from the turbos. I just had the mufflers removed. I didn't want to do the resonators for fear of it being too loud.

I have my two resonators removed for my 03 S600, it has the same exact tone but it actually sounds quieter than this! And mine is pretty damn loud, I can't imagine it going louder. I'm definitely going to go ahead and "experiment" what happens when there is no resonators OR mufflers

Do it . It's still ok with both mufflers and resonators deleted because the turbos and cats act as mufflers

I don't know why people are afraid of removing both

This is the formula 1 race car sound to shoot for

Of course that car is the non turbo v12, that is the sweet pure v12 engine roar

I've seen that video many times before and I am always blown away by the sound that thing makes. It is amazing, but it really sucks how you can't get that sound with the twin turbo models. Honestly, I wouldn't mind giving up my turbos just to get that sound....

I'll do the muffler delete sometime later this week and see how this sounds with no resonators or mufflers. I've only seen this car with either only a muffler or resonator delete, I've never seen one with both of them deleted. I hope this will be an amazing outcome....

I honestly wouldn't want to do it, even if I could. I'm thankful the turbos eat up most of the noise. As amazing as it sounds, it would absolutely ruin the interior serenity.

Sounds like its revving to 12,000 doesn't it?

I wonder if that car is unique?

No that's just how glorious the non turbo v12 sounds
Even the old m120 v12 from 1992-1999, without mufflers sounds like this
My old sl600 sounded like that without mufflers
Pagani used that same engine in the zonda

Just wondering why adding Turbo's makes it sound so different?

turbos are exhaust driven thus altering the sound of the exhaust

Turbos blend the exhaust pulses, greatly smoothing the sound.

Mufflers are at the end by the rear bumper and resonators are somewhere in the middle of the exhaust, usually right after that cats

since deleting the mufflers will you be selling the muffler bearings? or are you planning on holding on to those?

I hadn't planned on selling them. I'll probably keep them just to go with the car if I ever decide to sell it. I doubt anyone would want to change it back though =X
