Light sensor and remote issue... OCP help...

Dear friends,

Did anyone experience the following problem with OCP (overhead control panel):
- had no auto temp for long time... dealer said no communication with OCP. I replaced OCP with a used one now heat/ac is perfect. Now get 'Light sensor' message and no remote function. Car has new battery, everything else works good.
- Took to dealer again for diagnostics, they say no communication with OCP. Replace with another OCP module (they are 50 on ebay vs 800 at dealer). Same problem - temp works perfect, but light sensor message and no remote...

Any ideas?

Thank you in advance...

Coding of OCP? But if you can't communicate then you can't check the coding. Did you plug the light sensor back in?

Hi knowbenz,

Thank you for the time you took to reply and point me in that direction. I will check the sensor connection first, since I had windshield replaced some time ago and possibly the non-dealer installers did not connect the sensor correctly... come to think of it, the rain sensor (same assembly as daylight sensor) did not work amazingly good, but since it did not rain in so cal for years, I did not pay attention to it... will update on Sunday, when I get to work on it again...

...would a broken/misconnected rain/light sensor cause OCP malfunction and cause RF remote not work? Will find out soon

if you got an "el cheapo" windshield installed, rain sensor etc will not work as per MB design for your car model. the rain sensor is part of the windshield.
Good luck!!

Kraut56, it was OEM windshield. Surprisingly dealers don't want to install glass here, so it had to be a contractor.

BTW, another s430 funny thing - had my transmission 'serviced' at 100k by an independent mechanic, 30k later transmission started to occasionally shake the car on the freeway... dealer could not diagnose the issue (mounts (eng and tran), slip disk were done before and were perfect)... decided to see trans fluid... it was black and smelly, apparently wrong type for MB, flushed and replaced the fluid and tranny is like new again... Got to be careful with 'independent master mechanics'

That's why I do almost all the work on my S600 by myself (other than engine oil changes - too much of a hassle to get underneath the car just for that - MB is very reasonable for this task).

There are some things most car dealers seems to farm out, mainly glass and body/paint work. Probably cheaper for them.

Black and smelly trans fluid BAD OMEN

[QUOTE=Arizona Mike;7778618]There are some things most car dealers seems to farm out, mainly glass and body/paint work. Probably cheaper for them.

SOME transmissions are designed to have 'non-lock up' torque converter 'lock-up clutches. If your car specifies a non standard MB only fluid, that may be why. Special 'friction modifier' additive is needed to keep this constant slip clutch working smoothly. Otherwise it gets 'grabby' and no longer smooth. That the incorrect fluid badly overheated (black and smelly) is not good. Be sure and check fluid shortly to confirm it is still clean and not overheating.
