Worst resale value and high service costs may not be a big surprise but I thought S550 was fuel efficient in its class. Perhaps they compared it with the Smart figures.

I think it's ridiculous and misleading....They even say the only reason the S550 is on the list is because of cost and fuel efficiency, while most of the rest are due to quality and reliability issues. And they name this the "Worst" cars list??
I just got 26mpg in my S550 for the weekend, like many others get at the least, and that's not counting the new engines which are even more efficient, and get much better MPG for its size and performance than some smaller cars.
The S550 frequently tops quality, performance, and reliability lists, and was even named a "Best" car recently (I forgot where).....Obviously you pay the premium for the prestige and luxury, but then they compare the car to trucks, economy cars, and underwhelming vehicles and call it a bad value. I expect this type of treatment from Consumer Reports (which ironically has the S550 as a "Recommended" car), not from Forbes. This list is a load of crap.

umm.... dont take it too serious guys...
Take a look at the list again, you will notice that all the cars are American made and they had to throw in a token German and a token Japanese car.
They probably just threw all the German cars in a hat and picked one.
WTF??? Were you driving downhill all the way?

Yeah, I wouldn't take it too seriously. My feelings are not hurt.
I didn't sign up with the car for great gas mileage, or because it is a good "value," though I think that is a pretty subjective measurement.
As far as ownership costs are concerned, I'm used to it, like many of the good people here!
Big deal. My M5 could have made this list too. Who cares.

Very few "economy minded" folks are gonna buy an S Class regardless so one could argue that the "highest ownership costs" label doesn't mean much to those who actually buy them.As for fuel economy....the S Class will certainly gain ground (noticeably) when the Bluetec arrives. My Bluetec (according to the computer) gets 41mpg at a steady 65mph.Correcting for a bit of computer error and the added weight of the S Class that would probably mean mid-to-upper 30's...which ain't bad at all.

Oh please pick on another brand, the S-Class whether an S350 through to an S65, they the best selection of automobile in the world.
Oh and if you can afford one who worries about costs.
An S-Class owner's last worry is COST. Trust Me.

I don't take the word of any magazine that isn't dedicated to cars... I asked my tutor about his opinion on the Hyundai Equus a few days back.. he mentioned if that it was that interesting he should have heard of it reading Consumer Reports..

Haters never prosper! They choose the S550 based on people who can't afford the car. I guess the Prius would be a value because it's fuel efficient.

Exactly! This is the best car out there for reliability, performance, comfort etc. Sure we lose 50% of a high price as years go by but so what.
Us S Class owners know what we have and some two bit writer that drives a Camry will feel better by dissing the S class

That is the display for front parking sensors. You can turn it off by pushing a button (below suspension height button on next to command screen).

My father in law is a CR nut. He won't buy a toaster without "researching" it and finding the toaster with the best "rating" on Consumer Reports. He's either terrified of making a mistake, or terrified that there's something better out there that he missed out on. S Class owners are afraid of neither.
Not surprisingly, while he drools all over my S Class and thinks of himself as a car aficionado and a buyer of finer things, he drives a Toyota Sienna minivan.

I have noticed that people stare at my car a lot when I am going down the street. Did not notice that in my E-class?

This summer my wife and I took the S Class on a road trip and spent a few days in downtown DC sightseeing. The hotel was crazy expensive with an offsite valet service and a very cool but gruff doorman. We joked back and forth over the few days we were there and he was a great guy.
The morning of checkout we're standing out front waiting for the car with several other guests. I'm wearing my best Sam's Club traveling outfit of shorts and a t-shirt, unshaven, looking like a shlub. There's some business a-hole in a suit giving the doorman a ration of crap because his car hasn't come fast enough. He yells "You *******g suck!" at the guy. The doorman, fed up, flips him off.
The suit goes inside and comes back with a manager. The manager wants the doorman to apologize. The doorman looks at us and the other guests like "help me out here." I step up and tell the manager the suit guy's a total tool and I'm surprised the doorman didn't punch him. The suit looks at the manager and gestures to me like "You're gonna believe this putz over me?"
Just then, with perfect timing, up rolls the suit's car...a Ford Focus, and right behind it, LED running lights blazing, looking like it would eat the Ford if it would just stand still for a second, is the S550, which I walk over to. The manager looks at the suit, looks back at me and the S, pats the doorman on the shoulder and says "We're good here", then goes back inside and leaves the guy in the Ford standing in the valet lane with his dick in his hand.
I hear that Focus got a great rating in Consumer Reports, by the way.
