Cool Stuff I Accidentally Discovered Because I'm Too Lazy To Read The Manual

Has anyone actually used the Parallel Park Assist on their 2010+. It's active whenever Parktronic or Distronic is on. At speeds under 15mph or so it's scanning cars parked along the right curb looking for a parallel space large enough for the car.
When it's scanning, you'll see a letter "P" in a box at the top of the speedo that's not normally there. The box will change to white and the "P" will be blue...kind of the universal symbol for a parking area to signal that a suitable space is identified.
When you get that symbol, stop and put the car in reverse. You'll have to hit the OK button once to clear a message about watching your surroundings. (You'll be positioned alongside the car in front of your space.)
Then the COMAND screen will display a very cool multi colored graphic with a birds eye view of the car and the parking space. There's a colored arc on the graphic that changes color and shows you the path the front wheels must take to get the car in the proper position. You just back slowly, following the colored paths on the display.
Once it has you guided in, put the car in D and use the display to center the car in the spot. I've only used it once. It's super rare, like a Unicorn.

The headlight washers... How do you get them to come on? You have to wash the windshield 5 times!! Yes, 5 times in a row, then, and only then, will the headlight washers pop up, which are worthless if you ask me. Older S classes had mini wiper blades that worked worlds better. Also, older benz's used to have a "button" to turn them on. Mercedes wants to cost cut and save 15 cents on putting a button in, now you have to hit 5 times before they work. Ranting.

HOLD ON HOLD ON.... I've never used the Park Assist... your telling me that you need to control the steering wheel yourself???? WTH is wrong with Mercedes??????? Cars like the LS460L has had self park in it since 2007!!!!!! Is steers for you, all you need to do is control the brake. It does reverse park as well as parallel. Even the ford focus comes with this technology.. why is MB slacking.

There is Parktronic Assist and Active Parktronic Assist. Active Parktronic assist will park the car - you work the gas and brake. I have seen that done by dealers in my area on cars with Active Park assist. I have not tried it out on my car yet, but when I get up the nerve, I will do it. I have the active version, my former E350 has the passive assist vesion where you steer, work the gas and brake - following the guidance.
Here is the active version being utilized on videos from youtube

I think as owners we have a duty to at least once try every single contraption those engineers cooked up to cram into our cars, no matter how silly or useless. Not to name names, Nightview Assist.)

After you stop, press the brake pedal again to set Hold. Press accelerator to release. Note that if you leave the car in Hold too long (several minutes) it will release itself and then the car will immediately set the parking brake. The car will jolt for a second during the transition, which can be be an "oh ****" moment.

I found this strange. I got an iPhone 5s recently and paired it with the bluetooth. The calling works but when I receive texts, the car does not display them. It does say "messages/texts" on the corner but the option is not available.
Another thing I found was that if you have the headrests that are square, the cushion can be adjusted in or out.

This'll probably be a work in progress because there's a ton of cool stuff on the car, and also because I'm easily amused.
"HOLD". I accidentally discovered that when the car is stopped in traffic, tapping the brake pedal again puts the car in "HOLD", meaning it won't creep, roll down a hill or do anything but sit perfectly still until you hit the gas or brake again.
"Adaptive High Beam Assist". I originally thought I was having a stroke but it turns out that with this function activated the car will drop its high beams when oncoming traffic approaches, and turn them back on when the coast is clear. Your passengers will ask if your car really just did that. Yes, it did my friend.
Also, when you tell the NAVI robot lady that you want to cancel route guidance, she asks you if you're sure you don't want directions with a little hint of skepticism, just like a real live chick!

The high beams turning on and off when they sense traffic coming is pretty cool. But sorry to say my 1955 Pontiac came with that feature too. Alot of GM cars from the 50s did. It was called the Autronic Eye.

It's funny how things come back over the years and people thing it's some great new tech. I love to read my motor trend magazines from the 50s and see all the things they sold back then which are remarketed today as latest and greatest.

Yeah, that's pretty much the exact same thing. Good catch. And of course it was so well engineered and successful it remains in GM cars to this day.
Nice try, Mercedes. GM beat ya to it!

Sorry it only comes if you get the tech package. That comes with an Autronic Eye on the hood like posted above and an AM radio!

How much longer before we see this post?
hey guys. I just picked up a immaculant 2007 S550 with 120,000 miles on it and I'm really thinking of doing this Cyclops facelift update and a few other mods ha ha ha. Is the 2007 hood the same for the Cyclops as the 2010? or do I need a different hood from a 2010? what wires goes to the Cyclops from the headlamps or run a new wires? Also I'm 19 and my dad's a dentist. thanks in advanced.
