S550 and EMB Extended Limited Warranty
Hi,
We just purchased a 2012 S550 , not from a Mercedes dealer.
We wanted to purchase the MB Extended Limited Warranty and contacted our local MB dealer. We were told the following:
"Because this S550V4 was traded in at a Mercedes-Benz dealer and then wholesaled without being certified, it is no longer eligible for the Mercedes-Benz Extended Limited Warrantee"
Is there any way for us to still purchase the Mercedes ELW?
Thanks in advance.

For whatever reason Mercedes didn't want to certify this vehicle and such vehicles are sold wholesale. I think you are out of luck as far as a Mercedes warranty is concerned. You could likely get a third party warranty but be careful and do your research.

It seems odd that the trade-in dealer did not certify the vehicle and sell it themselves unless the vehicle had cosmetic damage (minor dings or stained upholstery, etc) , or had previously been damaged and repaired. The only other reason might be that S550 class or the color of your vehicle is not popular in the area the trade-in dealer is located. The dealer makes much more profit it they re-sell the vehicle to a consumer than wholesaling it to another dealer.

I agree with you, completely.
Actually the car is immaculate........just had the dealer service it.
They commented that the car was excellent needed absolutely nothing.
Mechanically and cosmetically the car is outstanding.....looks factory new.
Diamond white, P2, panoramic, split view screen, rear entertainment, rear recline seats, heated wheel, sport amg package, etc.
I'm happy......except for the ELW.
Still MB's position makes no sense......nowhere in their ELW materials are there any eligibility requirements other than it must be within the original warranty period.

what's the std warranty period ?
If service history up to date in Europe it would still be under the std manu warranty. Thus the fact you bought via third party would be irrelevant.
If merc std warranty elapsed, you are out of the loop as didn't buy from Merc dealership. The reason they didn't keep would likely be something is not what you think it is.... mileage verification, serving or indeed crash damaged. I hope its none and you sort to your satisfaction.
As for extended warranty in UK often on other vehicles the extended warranty is not really via the manu (although they like to pretend it is) and basically as useless as buying any third party warranty they just dress it up to look good. That said on my fathers merc a few years back I think it was as good as the real deal.

Thanks for all the responses.
The dealer confirmed the car is good.....no issues previously or currently whatsoever.
Spoke with MB USA......very simply the ELW is only offered if the vehicle was purchased through MB.

I think this is a recent change they made to push their CPO cars. I think earlier you could get the extended warranty before the original warranty runs out. I think you might still be able to do that if you are the original buyer.
