Trunk Lid Close Coded but Inoperable? Please see pictures.

Recently retrofitted 2007 Trunk Lid Close system (please see picture).

This is the boot switch, harness, control module, pump, pump case, bracket, actuator and wiring. The latter is NOT connected to the SAM/Fused, just the battery. Should it be ?

Coded in today at MB dealer, but not working when button pressed although button lights up (please see picture).

1. From the picture, can anyone tell me if I have the complete system or is anything missing ?
2. Anything new which should appear in the Comand Menu after programming e.g adjusting speed of lid close ?

Searched forum for possible answers, not sure, any trouble shooting advice?

Thanks.

There should be a driver's door switch which activates the power trunk. The key should also be coded to have this feature work. I don't recall there being anything in Comand regarding the power trunk feature.

Yes I tried the drivers door switch but it only opens, not closes. Neither button works on the boot switch.

Will need to double check about error codes on Star Machine and whether the trunk 'not normalised' tommorow. This could be a simple break in wiring and easy fix if so.

Also, there appears to be an option in the Comand Menu, under 'Vehicles'. Look at this picture. Can anyone with Auto Trunk Close feature confirm they have this? It is in the W221 manual.

The Comand function only controls how far the trunk will open when pushing the release button. Regarding closing the trunk with the door switch, you have to hold the button down until the trunk is completely closed. I'm not sure what's going on with the new trunk buttons on the lid.

Is it properly wired into the CAN bus? Thats how it talks to the other parts of the car. See if star diagnosis can detect and do some tests on it

It's only wired into the rear battery, not into the rear SAM or anything else.

The fuse chart shows the Trunk open/close system should be wired into locations 70,74,80 and 131 (7.5A fuse in rear, which it currently isn't).

The MB dealer told me the Star Machine wasn't talking to the Trunk Control Module suggesting it could not 'see' it. Probably explains why pressing the buttons have no effect.

Anyone know exactly how this should be wired ?

I'm pretty sure it gets wired into the Sam. Far right corner of the Trunk, right?

The manual states "You can limit the boot lid opening angle on vehicles with the boot lid remote operating button. The boot lid will then only open LEVEL with the roof. This could be useful, for example, if there is insufficient space above the boot lid"

So there are only 2 angles the boot opens; fully open (limiter off) and partially open (limiter on) ?

My Comand menu does not have this despite being able to remotely open the boot lid. Can the dealer add it ?

Yes correct, far right in boot.

Will need to connect mine to 131 then. But is that enough for the car to 'see' the trunk control module? Any other harness as part of this system?

That explains why the buttons work but not the key. Im guessing you connect it to the CAN bus through the SAM and then activate it in DAS/xentry but not 100% sure.

Judging by the schematic the missing piece to the puzzle is the SAM connection so it can talk with the central gateway (CGW)

Actually the CAN wiring goes to the distributor but anyway it lacks connectivity to other control modules in the car. gf00.19-p-1000-05saa should explain the details.

I knew this from Diesel's help on another project I'm working on. I still haven't gotten to test it out yet Diesel, but I'll let you know.

I have a module that taps in into the bus wiring in the right side of the trunk - which will allow you to CLOSE THE TRUNK via the Mercedes key! You can't do this normally, you can only open it.

Finally Fixed

Yes just days ago. All fine now.

1. The wiring was completely wrong which the dealer changed, and there are now 2 wires that trail all the way to the front under the foot well, no idea what that is.

2. The button and actuator/pump/motor were all working fine but the Trunk Control Module was defective. Showing error code 9012; 'unit is defective' and 'VIN stored in the control unit does not match the VIN read out from the vehicle'. Changed with brand new unit from dealer, coded up and now working great .

3. The drivers door control module was also coded to allow fitting of new boot lid switch allowing it to open + close, the old one was just to open.

Now onto finishing the fridge.

Is there a way you can get me the same type of document for the 2010-2013? There way a change in the setup of those components and I'd like to see and compare. The n121 and quite a bit is different.

Hey Jason,

Have you spoken with Mid City about it? It would seem possible for them to produce an intercept module that watches the CAN bus for the fob key press and issue a trunk close command.

Actually, I already have a device to do this, but I was told it works on 07-13, but it's setup to work with 07-09 and I'm trying to figure out how to make it work for 10-13.
