Actually, the opposite is true. Chrysler has been using the flared wheel arches on the 300 since the LX platform was introduced in early 2004. It would seem that MB actually borrowed the idea from Chrysler during that short marriage.
I always find it amusing that the press claims that the 300 was based on the W210 E-class.....when in fact it actually shared the parts bin with the W211.
The 300 is a great car for the money.

Yeah, Mercedes totally took advantage of Chrysler's long history of engineering supremecy and stole all of Chrysler's cutting edge vehicle designs. These were the guys who gave the world the K car, five thousand different models of cars all named "Lebaron", including one with a Maserati badge glued to it, several with fake vinyl wood stuck on it, and the Omni/Horizon. And what was Mercedes doing all that time? Just smacking their lips knowing the time would come when they would have unfettered access to the Chrysler design and engineering braintrust.
Well played, Mercedes. Well played.

I noticed they also took Mercedes' key design when my dad rented a Town & Country.
and shifter hardware. (Identical to W210)
They must've used up all their budget copying because the interior was pure garbage hard plastic.

The funny thing about seeing these cars side-by-side is that the Chrysler is actually the better looking car....at least from the profile. I had the pleasure of meeting Ralph Gilles (designer of the LX line....300, Charger, Chally, and Magnum) back in 2006 and could instantly tell that he was going places. Now he runs the entire SRT line of rocket sleds. I still think the original LX 300 has the better looking exterior compared to the redesign, but the interiors on the new models blow away the old ones. Chrysler likely would no longer exist if Ralph's influence wasn't available.

LOL!!! Most true car enthusiasts would agree with me. The original 300C is still a head turner 11 years after introduction even though they were produced in mass quantities. There is a reason that it was the most awarded car in history.
The fit and finish and quality of materials never met S-class standards of the day, but there is no doubt that it was one of the most iconic designs of the 2000's.

Yeah, when it broke out really as the first modern domestic RWD sedan it was a striking design. Granted it was up against the Crown Victoria and the Impala, but that broad shouldered, chop-top gangster look was distinctive. Rappers and basketball stars fell in love with it.
It's aged pretty well considering. Best appreciated from a distance though.

A probably maintained 300 looks ok. I just don't like that fake Bentley look. A neighbor near me has one in off-White and he doesn't take good care of it and it's really beginning to look bad. Little things like scuffs which could be rubbed or buffed out are appearing around the bumpers edges like he's been trying to squeeze into too many tight parking spaces. Lol! I'm about ready to approach him and see if I can get some detailing business from this guy. I just detailed this 2012 Cadillac CTS and he was watching me while I was doing it.
