This page http://www.trakplus.com/application calls for a different part number (for the 15mm front) between 4Matic and RWD. The spacer for the RWD has an enclosed hub design while the 4Matic is open.

It is understandable that the 4Matic front hub design is different than the RWD variant. At this point, I am trying to determine if the RWD part (30556659) will work for 4Matic even though H&R's page calls for a different part number (3055665).

Because I have seen neither the 4Matic nor RWD hubs, I do not know how they are different (if anyone has photos, please post).

Here is what 30556659 looks like, specified for RWD:

Looking at the design, I would suspect that the RWD version does not have enough of a hub surface to adequately support the spacer.

So the open design can only accommodate a max hub height of 9mm whereas the closed design can accommodate more (or less)??

I'd defer to whatever Part # HR specifies. They guarantee fitment if you get the part they specify, but once they've been mounted they're not returnable.

The closed design can accommodate more which is the reason the open only works on 4matic and the closed works on both.

Just got off the phone with H&R. I'm told that the closed design acts as a replacement grease cap. The open design does not work with RWD cars because it does not properly slip over the grease cap.

To confirm, do the 2WD/RWD W221s have a grease cap in the front? If yes, do you have to remove the grease cap in order to install 30556659 (closed design)?

The AWD/4Matic, I believe, uses a sealed bearing, which has no grease cap. This is perhaps why the open design works, which also means that ruflife1 is correct, that the closed design will also work.

I'm off to a mtg. @ruflife1: I'll PM you shortly. I think the original plan works....
