Significant differences between 07-09 & 10-13 models?

I've been in the market for a reasonably priced pre-owned w221. Of course the older model values have dropped dramatically, but given some of the feedback I've read on the forums, many seem to think 2010+ model years would be the best bang for your buck.
I'm aware of the transmission woes of early 07's, however are there any significant improvements beyond cosmetics that make the later years that much better?

TIA

I have, most if not all of the threads focus on cosmetic updates. One thread mentioned minor software changes but it pertained to the s600. Just wanted to be sure.

Try edmunds. That site, I think, covers all changes "by year".

The interior has some nice upgrades, such as SplitView, Pedistrian Detection in Night View Assist, Lane Keep Assist, etc. If I were in the market for a W221, I would certainly consider the S550 biturbo model, or perhaps the OM642 Diesel.

the whole entertainment set up is newer in later cars...
there is no phone call Bluetooth connection in the early ones (you can play adding extras to get there, but its not std - although there is a BT connection for a headset !!!)
with the right option code you get Bluetooth music streaming in later cars
the navigation is a better system and higher def screen.... however USA maps are dead. in Europe they still do map updates for the early cars but the NTG3.5 has been dead since 2015 re newer mapping …. which is mad as the info is on the earlier discs ???
