The difference between owning a 221 in warranty and one outside of warranty is the difference between dating a stripper and marrying a stripper.
On an S65, add taking your stripper wife for invitro fertilization and getting quintuplets.

It is likely this vehicle will soon need new spark plugs which could easily cost over $1000. If it needs new brake rotors, the OEM price is $1100 each -- plus about $450 for OEM brake pads -> about $5000 for parts plus the cost of labor for a brake job!!
Even if you had a warranty, this vehicle is very expensive to maintain.
Also-- Ad states that it is a one owner California car, yet it is currently located in Michigan.
Kelly Blue Book shows retail price from a dealer is about $42,500 -> the asking price is no bargain.

The rotors are not the floating $1000/ each rotors found on the sl65 Amg. The rotors on this particular car are $120/ rotor. Pads are similarly priced.
The biggest concern are engine mounts and the abc system (valve blocks, hoses)

The fronts are $660 ea, but don't look roasted (from here). The rears are $200 ea. Realistically, $500 in parts get the rears done.

Of course, dealership labor could be hurtin' for those unfamiliar with wrenches.

OEM rotors and pads at all 4 corners run about $2200. Add labor and you're likely in the $2600 range.
My source for costs is AutohausAZ.

I was only pointing out the cost of a full brake job on that car. European cars generally require the rotors to be replaced once the pads are worn out. You can't cut the rotors because there isn't enough material left after cutting to stay within spec. The front rotors on that car are definitely aftermarket. If it's not being used at the track, I'm sure they're fine.

Good answer. Puts a real number on the BS $5000 statement.
I personally sometimes just replace the pads and let them bed to the rotor. Then change the rotors on the next go round. Or course that's merely good enough and not good as new, so how you work that into a vehicle value is exercise left to each individual.

Again, damn shame it's such a money pit because the car's interior is gorgeous. I wonder if anyone has taken upon themselves to transplant that kind of interior into a non-AMG W221.

Actually, those are the pre-2010 key fobs. The newer and current key fobs have the red diamond shaped panic button whereas the pre-2010's have the circular panic buttons.

I had this experience when I replaced my rotors, pads, sensors on my S63. $9700 CAD!!! They are normal steel rotors!! I would expect carbon ceramic at that price. The people at the dealership were speechless and they even said they can't justify the cost of the parts.

This is not true for an AMG. Once you have those 3 letters on your car maintenance triples.

My bad....you're right. I read it as if they came in pairs. Looking at about $4000 for the pads & rotors plus labor. If it were me, I'd be looking for options other than OEM parts.....especially since the car likely won't be living at the track.

I bought myself a 2007 S65 last year with 62K miles and no warranty.
I LOVE this car and I would do it again. That all being said I also bought it site unseen in California and I live in Maine.
Never regret and just go for it.
