S65 Rusting Lug Bolts

MBWorld Fanatic!
Stainless steel isn't used for critical applications as it isn't strong enough.
Maybe there are some chrome plated bolts somewhere, but I've never seen any MB ones.

Buy new lug bolts from the dealer. They are maintenance items. There is a currently active thread on this in the W212 section, overlapping model year era as the W221.
New lug bolts aren't expensive in the big picture.

Caps lead to headaches. I wouldn’t use them, but rather purchase new bolts. What is the objection to buying new wheel bolts?

I bought these for my 2007 2 years ago and they did not rust.
Note I live in Alabama though, so not sure they would hold up in Michigan or Ohio or places like that.
I like these better than the OEM bolts. A 11/16 6-point socket fits them perfectly. The OEM bolts are some wierd head size, they always got all crossways and stuck in the socket when I put them on or off and got all mangled up. The OEM bolts are too big for a 11/16 and too small for an 18mm.

FWIW, this is the correct socket to fit those star lug bolts.
