Need your help!! New C300 4-matic: Wheels
Ok, I am in the process of purchasing my 08' C300. I my original negociations I selected the AMG wheels. When the car was delivered, to my surprise, the AMG wheels were not on the car. I have not taken delivery yet because of this. The dealer jsut called and told me that the AMG wheels can not be put onto the 4 -matic because they are a wider wheel base and could damage the all wheel drive system. I hope for you help here, is this true?? Can I have the AMG wheels on a 4-matic?? Does anyone have them??

You can for the 3,200 option for the 4matics. A bit much if you ask me. I love them, but wasn't willing to fork over the 3,200 for them. You can get a nice set of BBS's for that much.

The more people talk about it the confused I get. I hear so many different comments.
I have an C350 - 4Matic and it has the AMG (stamped) rims on it.
When I looked that the MB dealership they had a set of snow tires available for my car and the parts manager made a big point of telling me that all four snow tires are of the same size, even though my car has different tires front and back.
All the tiny differences drive me crazy. Another big deal is the leather option, Artico Leather, than real leather, than only the seat surfaces, than the arm rest or no arm rests all sound very confusing to me.

2008 C300 Sports, AMG 18 inch wheels, MM package, 6000K HID Kit, 20% 3M tinted all around
If you want to spend $3200 for the AMG from dealer, you might want to condsider some other nice wheels, with that price, you may even get the beautiful 19 inch set for your car.

Normally I would say the same thing I've been told over and over, that staggered width wheels would tear up the 4matic system. The staggered width wheels are not offered as an option on U.S. spec cars for this reason. You can purchase the non staggered width wheels for $3,200 but thats a heck of a lot more than the factory installed $1,000 option on non 4matic cars. The reason I say that I would normally say this is that I'm looking at the MB Canada site (not that websites are always right mind you) and it states that the c350 4matic does indeed have staggered width 17'' wheels. If the poster above that has one would be so kind as to check the numbers on his front and year tires to see if they match or don't match, it would help solve this mystery.

The on-line interactive C Class Manual:
http://www4.mercedes-benz.com/e/cars...ng/flash8.html
definitely lists different size wheels front and back are used for 4-matic models. The pages are in the attached pdf, but it is easier to read on-line under the "in depth > technical data > tyres and wheels" section.
Mercedes Banz Canada website shows staggered standard tires on the C350 4-matic with front: 225/45 R 17 and rear: 245/40 R 17 ; but on the C300 4-matic they are 225/45 R 17 front and rear.
So it appears the 4-matic drive train can handle staggered tires, but whether a particular model's suspension is optimized for staggered tires is another question.

Oh we've had this discussion many times before...
The Sport models for the C300 and the C350 4matic both come with P225 tyres in the front and P245 in the read. I know for a fact that is the case because I have the C350W4M. Obviously, the 4Matic is able to compensate/deal with the staggered tire set-up. There's no center differential lock on the system, which I suspect is the advantage here.
AGGRESSIVE -- I'm sorry to say that your dealer is hosing you on this one.

Thats the page I went by for the Canadian C300 Sport, guess it doesn't really say if its sport or lux on there so you may be right. It just made more sense because the U.S. specs state the same thing, I don't fully trust the brochures either. Sorry if I offended you with the comment on not checking the actual tire size.
Yet another one of those Canadian options we can't get in the states I guess.

It was a sticky point because I expected same size front and rear tyres on my C350... I was laminating the loss of my P235 width tyres on my TL. But when I was taking pictures of my car, I was like those are wide rears! It never occurred to me that it was a possibility.
Can anyone in the US verify that the lux gets P225 all-around, and P225 front/P245 rears in the sport?

My car has the identical tires like peabers 225/45 R 17 front and 245/40 R 17 rear.
The amazing part was that the dealership had a factory set of snow tires for my car and they were 225/45 front and rear. The parts manager made a special point of telling me that.

Is it the "AMG" set that they tried to sell you? The ones that are $5000 dealer cost, tyres + rims? Oh, it had to be AMG because otherwise the calibers would not clear... Yeah, I'll pass on those ones.

Update:
Just got back from the dealership and I have to recant my thinking. The C300 Sport 4matic DOES have staggered width tires. Although the brochure says they are the same, its wrong. All Sports have staggered width wheels weither they are 4matic or standard rear wheel drive. Now why they won't offer the 18'' AMG wheels for the $1000 option is still a mystery.

I think if the truth would be known, there is a shortage in supply of the 18" AMG wheels and now you either wait or cancel the 18" wheels. Everybody at the dealerships seems to come up with a different story.

Now that I have my C300, I know for sure that the wheel set up is staggerd. Interesting to know later on that the dealer was giving me the run around. Good thing I went with a different dealer.

Yeah funny to read back on some of my older posts before I actually had my car in the garage. I read all the MB specs and even in the brochure it says that staggered width rims are not available with 4matic..yet they come from the factory with them! Yet another missprint in the brochure..can't trust those things as far as you can throw them. As for ordering a 4matic with the $1000 18'' AMG wheel option...I still can't figure out why they won't let you, unless it has something to do with the offset or needing spacers which could mess up the 4matic? Who knows...people on here have been dubbing out their 4matics so it can't cause too much damage.

Same here with my 4Matic Sport. I was expecting same size wheels so that I could rotate tires. The literature states 7.5x17 front/rear with 4Matic but that's not the way they come. Another example of "German precision" - not.
