Quaife LSD for C55

Just thought I would share this:

Thank you for your interest. We have been working with a very large Mercedes tuner on this part. I would suggest checking back with us from time to time for updates on this new application.

Do a search on this. Who said they cost $10,000.00 USD? I can make one for 5,000.00, ten for 2,500.00, and thirty for $1,100.00, directly with Quaife. Who is doing this custom order? What facts are available in detail? Who can we call to confirm? Who is providing the donor parts?

Like I said before, get half a dozen people together and we can all have one for around $3,000.00. Clutch pack systems will wear out well before you every break anyting with a Quaife. They are seamless in power delivery, design and engineering. They have a patent on thier design and that is why you don't see anyone duplicating it. Other system will provide traction as well, but the Quaife does it better. Although some will disagree with their experience in other cars, I guess we will just have to wait and see how a Quaife LSD behaves in a C32/C55 I am still willing to put money up front to make this happen. PM me. Anyone going to England soon or are from there? Are there any England based mercedes sites that have explored this with Quaife England?

BrabusW203, where in this thread or anywhere else is there a definitive statement of MSRP for a Quaife LSD for a MB W203? And who is selling them to have already put a price tag on a unit that is not yet in production?

SilvaC32, how can you pass up putting on a mod that is so rare? This is the last piece to add to your car since you have run out of things to mod and have starting replacing aftermarket pieces already. What number set of wheels are you on?

Hey,
Don't shoot the messenger, if you observe past pricing guidelines for similar LSDs, they've been in that price bracket, RETAIL-ly speaking :p

BrabusW203, you are completely off the mark and know not what you speak of. The typical Quaife retail pricing is $1,395 for most applications. I bought my BMW E36 Quaife LSD for $995. There has never been a $10,000 Quaife unit made for wide public distribution. The Kleeman is no where near that price and similar to the one off pricing of the Quaife. Show me one LSD that retails for $10,000 in a rear two wheel drive commercially produced vehicle producing under 400hp!

I'd be in at $3K. Do we have 6 yet?

I wonder what tuner and at what price point?

I apologize if I am mistakened, but I've seen that number float about in several issues of Mercedes Enthusiast UK. Now if I misread the information I apologize again, but I am just putting down numbers that I've come across for Mercedes vehicles.

I tried to get this going a while back. One a few people were interested and none of them were willing to fund a 100% deposit directly to Quaife prior to order. We also need a loaner car or parts to ship to them or make arrangement in England to supply loaner parts for measurements and fitment. I got preliminary used parts pricing at about $2,000, which could be sold again after fitment. This extra cost divided by six people would increase the cost of the LSD by $333.33. Upon sale of the parts, a refund of $x.xx would be forthcoming.

RLS, did you speak with Jason and will he tell which tuner is negotiating with them right now?

Wow!! what a responce to this.
I have not persued this any further than the one e-mail that I passed on to this thread. My C55 won't even be here till July sometime. I do think the Quaife LSD is the better unit to get if it becomes available. I do not understand anyone not wanting to make this one of their first mods. But I quess that is a personal decision. I think that all AMGs should come standard with it. I am more of a drag racer than a road course driver, and that means I need to go one further and get gears also. I do not need top end, just the ability to get there quick!

smgC32, I have read your previous posts about getting a group buy for this. Maybe now there is enough interest for it. I will contact Quaife again and find out what I can about who is the Mercedes tuner they are working with. From what I have read on this forum, I think we have enough to get a group price. We just need to get it organized.

I am very interested, but need to know that their design is specific to our application and that they will stand by any damage their product does to my car. If they can warrant that their product will not damage my vehicle, then I think tons of people would be in including me. I think we could hit the thirty mark without trying to hard, but maybe I am wrong. I am also running a much poo-pooed (by the management) group buy for direct factory replacement custom carbon fiber hoods for w203 c55 amgs. Check it out under c55 carbon fiber hood topic. I seriously am looking for an LSD and would be in, but want to find out the approximate final price. I think I would need to see less than 2 grand to say yes. But can almost give you a 100% yes at that range.

Any details on lock up ratio and operation type? 40% seems to be the bread and butter shot for good hookups while still enhancing cornering marginally.

By its design, the Quaife is 0-100% continuous lock as needed. The Kleeman is I believe 60% at all times.

The Kleeman is a 60% one and the Quaife is 100%.

BrabusW203, Even on their own web site you can pull up their price sheet. Take a look at it, I think you will be surprised.

I think we have 8 already!!

smgC32, I have sent an e-mail to Quaife, will see what they say!

Rguy, the only damage a LSD can do is break the LSD. Logically, I can't see what the additional lock will do except wear the clutch pack out or break a part therein using a non-Quaife design, and that is not a defect or breakage issue but a wear issue. If it was put together wrong or the materials were defective, the manufacturer would stand behind it but it would have to be proved. I have no problem with Kleeman in that regard. It would take alot of abuse to wear out a LSD.

Several of you said that they would be willing to pay around $2,000.00 for a LSD. Why don't one of you buy the Kleeman and report back to us on its effectiveness in a C32/55 as it is available right now for about that price?

I got a price for the Kleeman LSD. The LSD was $2,200, installation 7 hrs. @$125 an hr. equals $875, shipping is around $50, plus tax of $154 for a total of $3,379!! That makes for one expensive LSD.
