2005 SL500 interior part question
I just purchased a second r230 and i am having trouble with identifying an interior part number. The car is missing one of the small flaps that covers the back when the hardtop is in the truck on the drivers side. Its square in shape and has hinges to the one side seems the hinges broke and part is gone. I tried to find it in the parts book but i did not have luck. It looks like it part of the back seat interior trim.
Any help would be appreciated.

Common issue. That small piece alone cannot be purchased (new) separately. It is part of the larger interior cover and pricey for what you get. A fellow sells a repair kit on ebay. Also talks about it on the other forum. I'll see if I can find the link.

I have the assembly available to sell for the left side in color "Stone". This is the entire part -- not just the flap. If someone is interested, message me with a reasonable offer.

FYI, that eBay kit is basically just tape cut to fit. I'm not saying that's a bad thing - I repaired my flap with Gorilla tape. In fact, I recommend everyone use some Gorilla tape on their flaps, even if they seem secure. At least that way "when" the hinges break, they won't go flying off. Now, if he has a source for replacement flaps, that's great because the only way to get one now is to buy a new $200 side panel.

With the increasing popularity of 3-D printers I suspect it will not be too long before someone is selling 'knock-off' flaps. There are a lot of parts where I would want the real thing/OEM, but the plastic flap, as long as it fit and looked right I wouldn't care. I'd buy a few if inexpensive just to have spares. That said mine are still originals. I need to investigate using tape to secure them...not sure I understand that. Thanks, Mark

Hi Everyone, Last week I noticed my right side flap missing after a trip to the supermarket, I drove back to the store searching for the flap on the side of the road, no luck so I put the top half way up and found the flap inside the well. I repaired the flap by drilling a 1/8" hole in each of the hinges and use
d two small zip tie to secure the flap in place. I first looped the zip tie around the metal shaft that runs thru the flap. When drilling the two holes remember to support the plastic from below with a flat screwdriver to avoid breaking the cheap plastic. After you have the flap slowly tighten the zip tie with a needle nose pliers until you have the flap loose enough to flop closed. It took 15 minutes to repair, I also put a dab of glue to hold the zip tie just as a precaution.

C Pillar Removal/Re-Install to repair small flap with Spangler Repair Kit
Hello Community,
Here are some notes on removing the C pillar flap cover to properly align the Spangler Flap Repair Kit found on ebay by searching "Spangler Mercedes".
As you know, when the small flaps break at the plastic hinges, etc., one cannot replace just the small flap. You have to buy the WHOLE assembly, which is really pricey. Even used ones on ebay are expensive.
The Spangler Repair Kit seems like a reasonable fix!
