Individual Mode (I) Doesn't keep D/M transmission settings

I recently picked up a CPO GT-s Edition 1.

I hope someone can clarify the Individual drive mode to me. I've set the transmission mode to Manual (M) and prior to starting the vehicle I would select I, then started the vehicle. Several times I've noticed the transmission would be in D while a few times it would maintain M. All the other settings (Suspension, Sport, Exhaust) were unchanged, only the transmission would switch back to D every now and then.

Would there be certain scenarios that would cause the transmission to switch back to D instead of M upon start-up? I've gone in and changed the trans settings back to M, and a few times upon startup it would switch to D again.

I do not have a GT yet but on my C and CLS, it would not keep the M mode and always default back to D in S mode if I remember correctly.
Congrats and welcome to the club. There is a facebook forum as well if you wish to join in.

I didn't think that one of the parameters of Individual mode available for changing and retaining is manual shift mode. Are you saying that it remembered it and restarted in manual mode? The manual is a bit confusing here.

I believe the ECU defaults to D mode on cold start-up. It will only pre-select M [in I-mode] if oil and coolant temps are above a threshold. Ditto for full engine power.

I believe you may be right. Because I've seen my vehicle pre-select M in I-mode and at other times it defaults back to D.

Sorry for bumping this old thread but I have this exact same question. Just wondering if it is the same with other owners as well? When I start the car and when I switch to Individual mode then even though I have chosen the transmission to be in manual it will actually be in automatic mode. Even when driving around for a while and switching from Comfort to Individual it will still be in automatic unless I press the manual transmission button. It's quite annoying and what's the point of Individual mode if it actually won't allow to leave the gearbox in manual.

Have you tried to re-set the I mode?

I have had similar issues trying to ‘pre-select’ “I” mode before a cold start. If I just start the car and allow it to warm up before selecting “I” mode, it works like a charm every time.

In my GT R, in I mode which is set for manual mode, it will always go to M mode. Start up will be in comfort mode every time until I switch to I mode

Yes, I've set the Individual mode several times and every time I start the car and switch from Comfort to Individual the transmission will be in D (automatic) mode instead of M (manual).
