A Kansas Farm boy solution!
My indy uses two separate instruments to clear codes. When, over the last decade I had an "on the road" event, I will disconnect the negative battery terminal and depending on venue and time issues would reconnect. ( longer time is better ) The car would be out of LHM!! I have read from many on the site that learning what is wrong is important ( read the code is GOOD ) Some of the vehicle systems retain the error codes longer. When I do start up from the battery disconnect, I rotate the steering wheel full right -left back and the warning lights are all off! My present protocol is to check fluid levels and as long as the LHM doesn't return continue the road trip.
The MB air intake is most often the cause of the CEL, in that a sensor detects particles in the air induction system. My Indy said the part change out would not improve the CEL issue but I paid for new MAS anyway. He was right!!! In the Kansas air, even with new MB air filters, the light comes on frequently.
