FASTEST STOCK ENGINE 500SL IN THE WORLD?

3300lbs 1992 500SL m119.960

I know some nitrous SLs are running around this ET and maybe faster though or on modified motors.

That's still slower than Kens and his still tips the scales at full weight.

According to what I saw he is only running .1 of a second faster best time. Plus he has a renntech airbox and I believe head work. Mine is straight factory and still uses stock paper filters no k&n filters. There is a supercharged SL on YouTube from a "MIKE" that runs 12.8 or so too... But that's why I said stock motor as in not a single mod. I'm impressed because I saw an apparently stock SL 1991 run a 15.3 which means with weight loss alone I picked up 1.4 seconds

Also if I had a grill installed turn signals and the lower front fender peices from an aerodynamic standpoint I might have picked up the .1 second to match times.... None the less I picked up .5 and 3mph from last time so I'm making progress which I am very pleased about. This was just to set a new baseline.

Yes he has a renntech box, ported TB and exhaust, but weighs 1000 lbs more than yours, so doesn't seem like it was worth gutting the car, or you just aren't driving the car right.

That's all that matters although I think you did a lot for not too great of an end result.

Maybe the 5 speed in his car is better than my 4 speed and the engines are a little different. It would be hard to compare to me in a sense but I agree it makes sense for the amount of work and time I've spent vs the 3 mods you listed for ken that it wouldn't be worth it in a practical standpoint... And maybe altitude and temp made a little difference too. Idk the variation in altitude between us if any.

That's why I think the better comparison is the 1992 500SL ken ran against that ran a 15.3...

My eventual goal is 6 seconds at 200mph though so the stripping and everything else is chipping away at the block that that requires.

His is a 95 which still has the 4 speed. I think you will need a ton of HP at the wheels and you will most definitely need to tub out the rear to get massive slicks to put down that kind of power. A full roll bar will be necessary as they won't let you blast down the strip without one, and many other safety features and all that adds weight. Personally I think your goals are unattainable without completely moding the car to the extreme, and not even sure you can do it with the M119 motor.

Wikipedia said 5 speed and I had read that in the past that's why I thought it maybe I am wrong though I really don't know much about other years other than 1992 and I only know about the 500sl not the v12 or 6

I think I can get the car down to 2400lbs before safety mods with a full uncut stock frame by replacing the hardtop doors seat hood trunk gas flap and anything else im forgetting off hand with carbon fiber and stripping some more weight my calculations were based on a 3000 lbs car and 2500 hp for the goal of 6 seconds so at 2400lbs I'd have room to spare weight wise with a cage fire suppression system ect...

I also have a v12 engine I got because I completely agree idk if it's possible and I highly doubt it is possible too... But that's the fun of dreaming and if you shoot for the moon you just might make it. It's all hypothetical and math at this point.... But I really think it would be cool to see a Mercedes r129 get that far since its setting new ground and a way for owners to take pride in their cars seeing what it would be capable of if pushed.

It's just a passion I guess
