You get a red warning light but at that point you have to immediately shut the car down or your pump will chew itself up in a very short time. The hoses never seem to fail at a convenient time.

Thanks Geo3, When I first started this journey the idea was to retrofit a SL350 coil over suspension. What I have found is these parts are actually for all SL's except black series. So it actually isn't a SL350 suspension it's an SL suspension which is even more interesting.
I be grateful of any info that you can share.
I am also involve with a local shop KingsPerformance in a personal race car project so I have the accesses to tools and equipment to also do a complete thread with pictures & results
I know quite a few people locally here that are going thru the same issues with their Sl
The 03-09 Sl was the most sold roadster in central fl avg 5000 sold so theirs a lot of them pop in at the local MB dealer for service and 90% of them get trade-in cuz the ridiculous repair cost!!!
The conversion kit or tread advisor with parts & guide lines is a must for everyone that owns a Sl
Please text or call me 321-228-8009
Thank you for sharing your info

Thank you for your post, Im in the process of removing my ABC on my car and I wanted to install sway bars as well. Would we have to change the lower arms as well to accommodate the sway bars?

From memory because I don't have my research in front of me. There is an existing hole in the lower control arm on all models. There is a ball joint that presses into that hole.

hi, Does anybody know the special ball joint for a SL500 or SL550, that fits into the bottom circular sleeve holder on the Sachs ABC front suspension strut?
I am looking for the ball joint maker and a catalogue number to enable me to buy two. It is not available from Mercedes or Sachs or Lemforder and I cannot find it on anybodies catalogue either in the USA or Europe or Australia.
The two Merc strut reconditioners obviously know where to buy it from.
So....can anybody point me to the correct aftermarket part?
Kind regards from Gene

Thanks sawwrench for your reply.
Ive also seen that comment however still nobody knows what to buy!
The 2008MY standard Merc SL500 leg balljoint is diameter 34mm, (and aftermarket parts suppliers list that one.
The 2008MY ABC leg ball joint is going to be about 48mm diameter. No aftermarket parts supplier in USA or Europe or Australia lists the required ball joint.
The ABC leg is Sachs so the standard leg to buy for a ball donor must also be sachs to make sure that what you extract will fit the original ABC.
So I either need a Sachs leg part number to buy from my dealer, (but I have no idea which model it comes from), or a part number and manufacturers name for the individual ball joint.
I do hope somebody can advise.
Kind regards from Gene

Coil Overs
The SL350 is not available in the US so I don't know if we can get the part number for you on that strut. I know some people have been wanting to do a swap to coilovers (including myself). Strutmaster was one option, but I think they stopped making the suspension for the SL500 for a while. I can check with them to see if they are still selling it.
Let us know if you find the part number on that strut.
