upper radiator hose info needed

I notice the upper hose is in 2 pieces and there are not clamps but bands holding some, but not all, of the connections together. How are they supposed to be removed if the hose(s) need to be changed? Thanks for guidance here.

The hose attachment to the radiator has a retaining wire. Lift up the wire, tug, twist, jiggle, wiggle to separate the hose end to the radiator. If you choose to pry a bit, be careful of plastic radiator. It is all one hose, with hose clamps on the other ends.

Mine is leaking at the lower band. Can the band be cut off and a worm drive clamp replace it?

That band is part of the lower hose end plastic fitting, which then attaches to the radiator. I would guess it being difficult to remove the band without damaging the hose and fitting. I suggest replacing the hose, being careful with that plastic radiator neck.

It'll be easy peasy to remove. $3 clamp is way better than a $90 hose assembly. Looking to see if anyone has tried it and knows for sure.

Well this has GOT to be one of those things engineered in to make guys who don't work on their own stuff spend money. I have no idea why Mercedes put non adjustable bands on this hose. Got the hose off and it was most defintely the bottom band by the radiator that was leaking. Soooo, cut the band with an angle grinder in about 8 seconds, cleaned everything and replaced band with a $1.46 stainless clamp. Leak fixed. Cost a buck 46 and a bottle of antifeeze.
