Need answers for battery & command problems
I discovered a dead rear battery after my 05 SL 600 sat for a month or so and it would not charge.
I changed the battery and everything operated normal.
Last week we took the SL on a 300 mi round trip.
On the way there we stopped a few times and had no issues starting but the command display started acting up.
At one point it showed hundreds of little icons all over the display.
The radio or CD was still playing. Another time the display froze up and had an
Orange tint to it? When ever we shut down the SL the command acts normal
When the car restarts.
On the way home after driving over 125 mi on the Interstate we stopped for gas and when I tried to start the SL it was like the battery was just about dead.
It turned over very slow and the starter stopped.
I tried again and the starter again turned over slowly but the engine started.
When I arrived home I shut the car down. I checked both batteries and they both had about 12.8 volts!
Any thought on the Command display or the battery problem would be appreciated.

Out Of Control!!
Without the diagnostic equipment,it sounds like the issue is with the battery control unit!!
The bad news is that you need factory or equal software to fully diagnose the starting circuit!!
PS: If you had a faulty charging system you would find a red light lite on the dash indicating so!!

If both batteries are low, I would take a look at the regulator or alternator.
Check the charging system first by starting the car and testing voltage at the rear battery. It should jump to 14V with the car running.
If not, you can change the regulator (bolted to back of alternator) for about $40, or get a lifetime warranty Duralast Alternator from Autozone for about $200. My alternator fried at 90K, and it is a bit*h to remove, but solved my charging issue.

Remember the battery in the engine bay is for starting and engine management systems all other electrical/accessory functions are run off the battery in the trunk both are charged by the alternator.I would first test your charging system since your having starting issues seems like your running on batteries especially with all the warning lights alluminating...if all check out then you have an issue with your battery control module.
