Turn signal/ Emergency Flasher removal

Hi everyone, what is the best way to remove the turn signal flasher on my '73 SL?

The flasher is located behind the instrument cluster. Is that what you want to remove? If so remove the steering wheel and cluster. Don't start the car with the cluster removed. The oil gauge line will make a mess.

Thanks I tried to access the unit from the under side with no luck. I'll pull the steering wheel & instrument cluster thanks for the info... Chris

Yeah others have posted underneath is possible but my hands and forearms are not the right size for that. Maybe have a child try.

Removing the steering wheel is the easy part. Just mark the shaft and wheel so you can re-align it again. I don't see how removing the cluster is going to help. Slide underneath and follow the steering post under thee dash. There are two connectors there. One is a multi-pin connector that goes to your turn signals and wind shield wipers and high and low beams. You can disconnect that to get it out of the way. Above that should be the flasher unit. It should be a three prong that you can pull out. Replacing it is a simple procedure. Good luck.

You must have skinny hands and forearms. That and a good back. Removing the steering wheel and cluster is easier for me. It is really quite simple on the '73. Once removed the flasher is right there and easy to remove.
