SL/R107: neutral Safety switch location HELP

I have a 2006 SL500 and love it. However, most of the time it will start in Park for the first time everyday, but otherwise, it has to be in Neutral to start. It starts everytime then. I fear pretty soon even that may cease. I'm assuming again this is caused by the NSS. The BU lights only work when it can start in Park. The NSS is not on the outside of the transmission. I assume it's an electronic type switch in the shifting mechanism on the console. A couple of questions:
1. Can it be bypassed, and how?
2. If I change it, does it have to be paired to the car by a dealer, etc?
....and also, where can I get a wiring diagram for this car. I've looked at all I can find on Google but none of those are worth a darn for this car.
....also, I have replaced the ABC with coilovers and they are great once they're adjusted correctly. Cost $1149 and got $800 for the old ones.
Thanks and have a great day.

This is a 2006 SL500 with an automatic transmission. It is a R230 with + and - on the shifter(again no paddle shifters, that was a mistaken posting). It is not a R129. There is no NSS on the outside of the transmission housing. I was wondering if anyone could tell me where the NSS is, if there is a normal type, or how it can be bypassed?
