Seeking Advice and Recommendations on purchase
New Member seeking advice and recommendations on purchasing an R107 or possibly a C107.
I have not got a particular car selected yet. Tho I am leaning in to the purchase of an R107, but seriously considering a C107 (due to their rarity).
what are the big areas of concern on these cars? I have read about the single row timing chain and given their age, rust is always a concern. What other items should I be concerned with?
I can do some wrenching myself.
I am not new to Mercedes, or German cars or even vintage cars. Previously I owned a 1997 SL320, 1988 300E, 1980 Porsche 911SC, and a 1968 Triumph GT6
My current fleet includes a 1988 SaaB 900S and a 2001 BMW 320i.
Any cars that you would recommend that I check out?

The C107 is not at all rare. Single row chain only applies to North American '81-'83 380 Models. Timing chain system failure is a problem with all V/8 107. A little less with the '72-'73 models because of the metal backed guides. Front subframe failure can occur in all '71-'85 models. It was reinforced beginning 9/85.
The 560SL has the most standard features like ABS, SRS, and limited slip differential.
