'06 E500, '99 ML430 and '07 SL65
Here's the cost breakdown to do it as I just got all the parts in prep of the conversion:

note that the 03-04 parts needed is different from 05+. 03-04 need a separate ECU. 2005+ have this built into the sensor.
Sensor: ebay- $150 (need to buy this used it is an outrageous price new)
ECU: ebay- $135 (need to buy this used it is an outrageous price new)
Distronic emblem for grill: $120 (from member on the board, but you can get an aftermarket grill with a distronic star in it for $150-$200 on ebay)
Bolt kit: ebay- $20 (available for $45 from huskerparts.com as these aren't on ebay often)
Wiring Harness: $106 from huskerparts.com
Dash/console switch that adjusts distance and replaces the ESP switch area: $74 from husker parts
So I'm in it $605 in parts and then will need to take it to the dealer to have the sensor aligned. Hopefully that isn't too brutal. I can do the computer coding myself since I have a star tool so I'll be able to save that expense.

+ the sensor which I found on eBay for ~$500. You can find them cheaper, but you want to make sure that it is the correct part #. So all in all for parts, it was $638.40

A CLS Star fits. I bought a CLS grilled with the DST Star and moved it over to the SL grille I had. Cost about $200 plus a little J-B Weld

the OEM one is only $475.02 with $11 shipping from husker parts too. They have the best price on most OEM mercedes parts.

Maybe any of you that have coded Distronic yourself with Star Developer can help me out here...
On my 2002 SL500 i have done the DTR (Distronic) coding, but after all the coding i have ESP error C151C "fault in CAN communication with ecu"
Any of you know if it is nessesary to change the settings in "Explizite Kodierung ME28 F3-Stand" Where the following options are available.
The car is coded as "4" now, but a change to "3" is tempting

ESP Module
control unit adaptations (or it could be in actuations)
There should be a menu called something like "unlock version".
Once you click on that, the ESP unit resets to the configuration of the CAN BUS and the ME-ECU version coding.
Hope this works for you too

Got it to work a few days ago..
Changed the ECU Coding in "Explizite Kodierung ME28 F3-Stand" to the ART version.
R230_M113_E50_EU3EU4_NAG_ART_ABC_250_km/h_KickPWG_PKK_MRM_1131531279_1131532779_1131533079
All is good, it works like a dream.
There's no coding done in the ESP module on early R230s
