Anyone know where I can get the R230 Airbag with the V12 logo on the bottom? besides the dealership

easy guys.....
What i meant is that the steering wheel buttons and Lin-Bus module is integrated in the Airbag
The Airbag works no matter what, but the Lin-Bus module for the buttons is R230 Only.
I have new 3 spoke steering wheel in my 2002 with old cluster, no problem at all.
Look at the attached picture for the visual difference on a SL versus SLK/CLS Airbag/Switch module unit
First Picture is the SL unit with the "stepped" BUS connector
Second pic is the SLK/CLS unit with the square connector with one "tap"
To complicate things a bit the SLK/CLS version also uses a R230 Spare part number
Spare part number for the 3 spoke R230 Airbag is A2308602202
This is for the standard and the flat bottom AMG steering wheel
The Performance Pack steering wheel with the Aluminum part in the bottom uses Airbag number A2308602802
Now you owe me one Chris, i'm not that far away :-)

...but I don't have the silver aluminum part. Can I use the airbag
that goes all the way to the wheel ( A2308602202 ), instead of
trying to find that aluminum part?

anyone know that R230 08-12 steering wheel can work on W211 06-09 ?
I bought a R230 3 spoke wheel and airbag, the pins seems the same but the steering control buttons won't work, I'm wonderring that the steering wheel control module's protocol is different with W211.

Yes I know this is an old thread but it has never been answered and I did this mod last year without posting anything.
YES THIS MOD WORKS IF YOU USE MERCEDES PADDLE CONVERTER
I bought a black on black r230 3 spoke steering wheel with the V12 logo on the bottom and the modules makes the steering wheel work on the older cars with the 4 spoke steering wheel.
It's actually thanks to Latemodel21 who made this module and if you can see on the bottom it even says LM21 lol. but to answer this question that was never answered yes it works and makes the car 100x better than the old 4 spoke look

As always, it is great having happy customers particularly when they are fellow forum members.
For anyone else interested, the "Mercedes Paddle Converter" module is a proven product with a 4 year track record of 100% customer satisfaction. This module can be purchased from various vendors including Forum Sponsor DCT Motorsports as well as ComandonlineUK (for those in Europe, etc), or it can be purchased directly from me (the designer/manufacturer).
I am always happy to answer questions about paddleshifter upgrades and I also can modify steering wheels for paddle shifters (have done over 200 MBZ wheels and nearly 100 Porsche wheels) .
Feel free to send me a PM
Cheers,
Chris

Heres a link for one up for sale from the same vendor I bought a year ago but my steering wheel was black not gray, but it has the V12 logo on the bottom of the airbag which is really hard to come by.

Its pretty cheap too, and if it doesn't match you can always send it to get it redone with carbon fiber and new leather, I ask FX design on this forum that did my carbon fiber trim and they said when they do carbon fiber on a steering wheel they also have to do new leather as well, and the price wasn't bad from what they quoted me.

No so, in order for them to work you will have to have someone rewire it in order for it to work. I went to a auto electric shop and have them do it. It took a couple days for him to trace out and note the diagram of functions on the original wheel. $300 later everything functions.
[Hey take some cough meds now and stop spreading germsQUOTE=V12TTenthusiast;5976878]Anyone know if the buttons will work with the command unit on the updated steering wheel?
I know anything 12+ is no good, but I heard the 09-11 will work on the older models as long as you reprogram them, can anyone confirm this?[/QUOTE]

Did you buy it directly from Chris or buy it online from a vendor? Chris provides the wire you need to cut and splice on either side of the new steering wheel for free, but he usually gathers all your info before he sends you out the part if you talk to him directly, but it shouldn't have costed $300 for something really simple unless they included the install too, but I swapped the wire myself and had my shop install it and it was no issue. But glad the steering wheel functions now.
If it was more than a wire swap then it might had something to do with your year of your R230, since I know the 03-04 had a completely different wire setup for the command units. But for my 06 all I had to do was swap a wire Chris provided me.

Hey everyone,
trying figure out why the upgraded steering wheel buttons doesn't work. Got an airbag from SL and all the connectors fit fine except the middle one on the new airbag. It has a different type of connector. I tried to hard wire and flip wires(there are only two), but no luck. Just wondering if anyone else had an issue before. Everything works, but the horn and steering wheel buttons. Swapped the old wheel back and everything works like it should. Thanks in advance!

quote "Everything works, but the horn and steering wheel buttons" .... what works?
sounds like you have the wrong airbag
your connector should plug into the port pointing toward the airbag connectors .... if not you don't have an r230 bag .... if it is NOT an r230 bag, It will likely read A230 860 XX02 if "XX" is 12,13,25, or 26 it is a CLS bag ... if "XX" is 11 or 24, it is an SLK bag (and, if it starts with A219 or A171 then is it also a CLS or SLK bag respectively)

As far as I know the digital connector for the paddles on the 3-spoke steering wheel is on the left and right. Paddles do work with the new steering wheel, the rest doesn't, if connected to those ports on the left and right. Mine is a 2007 and doesn't require an adapter.
I contacted a person who does airbag upholstery overseas and he told me there is no difference between CLS and SL airbags. SLK yes, but not CLS. It has "stepped" BUS connector, as mentioned in this thread above.
The part number is A230-860-17-02, google search is showing that this came from SL as well, if I'm not mistaken.

it is not clear to me now, which connector you tried to reconfigure . didn't your existing 3-pin harness (that plugged into your old bag) plug directly into your new bag?
