2009-2011 3 Spoke Steering Wheel on 2003-2008 R230?

Anyone know if the buttons will work with the command unit on the updated steering wheel?

I know anything 12+ is no good, but I heard the 09-11 will work on the older models as long as you reprogram them, can anyone confirm this?

Fits and works, plug and play.

But make sure that you get the correct Airbag unit. it MUST be from a R230
R230s Steering wheel BUS is not the same as the SLK and CLS which uses similar 3 spoke steering wheels

The R230 steering wheel bus connector (with the 3 BUS wires) is pretty flat and with 3 "steps" in one side.

The R171/W219 connector is square

The Steering wheel itself is exactly the same on the R230, R171, W219 range

easy guys.....

What i meant is that the steering wheel buttons and Lin-Bus module is integrated in the Airbag

The Airbag works no matter what, but the Lin-Bus module for the buttons is R230 Only.

I have new 3 spoke steering wheel in my 2002 with old cluster, no problem at all.

Look at the attached picture for the visual difference on a SL versus SLK/CLS Airbag/Switch module unit

First Picture is the SL unit with the "stepped" BUS connector
Second pic is the SLK/CLS unit with the square connector with one "tap"

To complicate things a bit the SLK/CLS version also uses a R230 Spare part number

Spare part number for the 3 spoke R230 Airbag is A2308602202
This is for the standard and the flat bottom AMG steering wheel
The Performance Pack steering wheel with the Aluminum part in the bottom uses Airbag number A2308602802

Now you owe me one Chris, i'm not that far away :-)

So if I get the parts from a R230 airbag I could move the parts to almost any Wheel then I guess. Since I dont want the 3 spoke Wheel. I actually want a more modern Wheel like in the New A-calss for example.

It takes a lot of modification to fit the newest style steering wheels in the older models,

This guy has them, but he is not so happy to share the details... which I fully understand

hmm, I have no more pics at the moment,
But it has SL55 cluster, SL55 seats, SL63 rear end with new style AMG muffler tips.
Its in my workshop right now for a rebuild of the ABC pump,

Have a Kleemann supercharger which will go on in the "winter break"
